D&D 5E (2014) So How Many Different Kinds of Elves Can There Be? A Thread on Subraces

Personally I don't like to see subraces at all. Subcultures yes (so I'm happy with culturally wood elves and culturally high elves, for instance). All the sub races seemed to be a bit silly to me, apart from situations like Glorantha where they were tied in strongly to the up-front creation...

    Moderation by Deletion

It also depends upon whether something is deep in a thread, or fairly recent at the end of a thread. We used to delete problem posts a LOT in the first decade, there has generally been less and less need for it nowadays - but may still be needed. Mods can still see deleted posts and threads in...

Robert Downey Jr. is not Tony Stark

I felt that IM3 was better than 2 but not as good as 1. The strength IMO was that it includes Tony dealing with the after-effects of the Avengers movie.

    iPhone 5S

My contract is coming to an end on my 4s, and it is my intention to get a 5s and pass my 4s on to my wife (who will pass on her 3gs to our eldest child). I've seen a lot of people agreeing with you in saying "where is the wow?" but really... we've got more this time than we had between 4 and...

Of the WotC Forums and the OTT

Hi chaps, great to see you here at ENworld. I did a minor edit to your post to turn red text into bold text, because we reserve red text for moderator warnings on the site. Not a big deal though. Cheers

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger's favored enemies and spells.

Actually, they had a bonus against 'giant class' (which included giants, trolls, ogres, orcs, goblins) of +1 damage per level when they were first introduced in the Strategic Review. So the idea of opposing a certain type of enemy has been with the ranger -since its very inception as a class!-

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger's favored enemies and spells.

Although in 1e it started kicking in at about, what, 8th level - it wasn't exactly minor spell casting as they got 1st and 2nd level wizard spells from the wizard list and 1st-3rd druid spells from the druid spell list. There were some kick-ass spells on those lists, I can tell you! Personally...

This is the approach I would favour at the moment.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger's favored enemies and spells.

I'm sure that someone else will have already picked you up on this but... no :) 2WF was in the 3e ranger because 2wf was introduced to the 2e ranger, which was there because Drizzt was a ranger who used 2wf because he was a drow and drow used 2wf. And breathe. The original ranger (as per the...

Is Spell Blasting Doomed to Suck Even More in Next than it did in 3.x?

Not sure whether it has been covered earlier, but I hope that this time they will attempt to balance evokers damage vs others per adventure rather than per encounter. Per-encounter balancing tends to over rate the benefit of area attack spells vs lots of enemies going by 3e and 4e IMO. Now...

    The Wolverine movie (spoilers)

I agree here 100%. Why can't we have the nice, honourable guy stay honourable? It did seem like a jerky thing to do with him. Sometimes I wonder if scriptwriters only want to allow a certain number of 'honourable' people in a movie, I case it 'confuses' the viewers.

    The Wolverine movie (spoilers)

However, that doesn't tally with the comics portrayal of adamantium, which can't be used to cut itself. I know, I know, "movies are different to comics". It just still jarred with me.

    The Wolverine movie (spoilers)

So, I've just come back from watching "The Wolverine" and I enjoyed it - certainly more than the wolverine origins movie a little while ago. I do have a question that perhaps someone more familiar with the series run it was based on could explain to me though... How does a giant robot cut his...

    Who's pumped for Pacific Rim?

I saw the movie because people I trust enjoyed it. I thought it was OK, but it was somewhat spoilt by a weak ending I think it would have been a much stronger ending if the two heroes had died when closing the gate. At the very least the bloke should have died (no way was there time for him...

So, about those Man of Steel reviews...

This reflects on an interesting point made by Robin Laws and Ken Hite's podcast earlier this year - hollywood 'knows' how to do 'personal growth and change' stories, but they don't know how to do stories so much about 'iconic hero does iconic things in an interesting way'. That's why they keep...

    D&D 5E (2014) Desired Spell Changes

The point of that mechanic is that the designers want this (and some other spells) to be dramatic 'finish him' spells, rather than potent opening spells. Personally, I'm OK with that.
