D&D 5E (2014) MM: How many high levels monsters have some form of magic resistance?

I find this argument unsatisfying, for reasons which are best expressed by swapping the classes round: "will you equal the wizards performance against a solo legendary monster? No. Guess what. You're not supposed to. Slugging it out with giant monsters is the wizards time to shine; you don't...

    Dragonmeet - who is going?

Well, I can report that Dragonmeet was very encouraging and good fun. I'd definitely recommend IT to UK gamers.

D&D 5E (2014) MM: How many high levels monsters have some form of magic resistance?

At least as the diviner you get the rather useful 'potent' ability - have you had the chance to say "I've forseen that he blows his save against this spell" yet?

Is Dr. Who Kid-Friendly? [possible spoilers]

If your children have very vivid imagination it may give them nightmares. Mine at 11 and 13 and don't watch it for that reason. You'll have an idea of how much your children are affected by visuals and concepts though. Some will worry about monsters under the bed at that age, others won't.

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

BTW, the response that you were quoting was to do with perceived lack of power of the wizard, nothing to do with the question of balance or otherwise. There are kind of more than one conversation in this thread!

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

I don't think it is quite as simple as that though. The wizardly complaint was that if they've got a high level spell they can cast once per day, they would rather expect that to do something pretty significant to the combat - and in some peoples experience it wasn't. In other words, it is OK...

    D&D 5E (2014) Class and Background combos

Some of my favourite ideas so far Urchin Sorcerer - converting my 3e Sorceress, the red-headed orphan from the kitchens. Warlock of the great one Sage - studying the ancients writings and some of them started studying him back Outlander Monk - last remnant of a lost people Gladiator Wizard -...

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

Not to put words into his mouth, but for example I've seen posters in this forum illustrate that at moderate levels a Fighter going nova with multiple attacks and extra attack actions quickly does much more damage than the wizards in the party were able to do when facing the single big foe (e.g...

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

This argument never makes sense to me. I often hear people use it, but if it were well balanced, then people would be on roughly the same page. If peoples views are polarised then that means that almost by definition it isn't well balanced. The number series 1, 2, 9, 10 and 4,5,6,7 both have...

    Dragonmeet - who is going?

So... nobody in the UK from ENworld going? Do we have a smaller UK footprint than I thought?

D&D 5E (2014) Should Power Word spells be a bonus action?

The argument always was that it was ninth level because of the speed rather than the power. Of course, 5e has made it a great finishing off spell now - it is arguably more powerful than it has been for several iterations. But... For a lone 9th level spell I'd like to see a little bit more...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Power Word spells be a bonus action?

Traditionally power word spells were very quick to cast (the clue being in the name - a single word to cast the spell). In 5e they are whole actions to cast though. Presumably they would be presented by many people as just "very long words!" But I'm rather interested in the possibility of...

So, anyone in the UK going to Dragonmeet this Saturday? This might be the first time that I've been able to get along, and it would be nice to meet anyone from ENWorld who is going along! Cheers

    D&D 5E (2014) POLEARM MASTER (Feat) !!!

That's the beauty of 5e. You'all have permission to do what seems right to you. I think that my position is rational and reasonable and shall continue with it. Everyone gets to make their own decision :)

    D&D 5E (2014) CR 13 dragon beaten by level 7 party observations

On the grappling question, I can see the argument in terms of resisting getting grappled in the first place (the human vs the mouse argument), but once a human has grappled a mouse, how easily can the mouse escape? I would think not very easily ("I will hug him and pet him and call him george")...
