    STILL No Character Builder Update?

Well, thanks. I rather like it here on the internet. I have done no such thing! In fact, I've pretty much stayed out of the DDI update threads. Fanboy is what my dear mom used to call me back in Canada. We'd hang out by a hole in the ice, waiting for seals to pop out for dinner, (mmmmmm, seal)...

    Players, GMs, and "My character"...

Generally speaking, if one PC doesn't want to follow the plot hook and the others do, I let them work it out. If I sense that the player is constantly rejecting adventures that the other players want to engage in, then it's possible the player is incompatible with the group. Not a big deal...

    Players, GMs, and "My character"...

Well, nothing in the example of unwanted PC on PC romance raises to level of a tort, true. But just because you can't get the courts involved doesn't mean it's ok. My point, and I think this is a big one, is that as a society we understand that there are some situations where our feeling are...

    Players, GMs, and "My character"...

I'm surprised. Maybe you're not looking in the right place. Tort law has a concept called a "dignity tort." Back in the old days, battery and assault constituted dignity torts. They're a kind of intentional tort. The important part is that last clause, that the person committing battery doesn't...

If it's not real then why call for "realism"?

IIRC, the Grey Mouser from Liber's books knew some magic that he learned from training under an apprentice. Though, this might be considered D&D related because, while the stories pre-date D&D, they definitely seemed to have influenced it. Note: this is just a nitpick. I agree with what you're...

    Rituals + Magic Item "Category"

This is a really good idea. It adds the flexibility by allowing more powerful effects to be created by rarer rituals. As an aside, right now, IIRC, you can only use a ritual to create a common magic item. Obviously it makes sense to have a rare ritual be able to make a rare magic item, and so...

    Players, GMs, and "My character"...

One Thousand Forty Two Once upon a time a D&D player wanted to explain how an anti-social character might end up in a group dynamic like the one found in many D&D adventures and campaigns: Lets say, for the sake of argument, that we can quantify fun on a scale of 1 to 10,000. 10,000 is Disney...

If it's not real then why call for "realism"?

Stop that. Isn't there a rule here about being logical? :D

XP - How do you do it?

The level of the lowest party member.

    Players, GMs, and "My character"...

Player 1 doesn't know. It's Player 2's responsibility to tell Player 1. No remedial action is necessary until Player 1 knows about the problem. If a player creates a character with a secret that the other players and the DM don't know about, then it's a risk the player should be willing to...

    Players, GMs, and "My character"...

Going backwards, gaming groups aren't democratic entities. What we're talking about is etiquette, not government. A single-player veto would only exist in a gaming group that allows it. I.e, Player 1 isn't prevented from playing their character unless the rest of the party agrees with Player 2...

XP - How do you do it?

You just reminded me of something. I ran a once of month Eberron game where, because of the slow pace, I ruled that after every session the PCs gained a level. Worked well.

XP - How do you do it?

I've been doing it this way since the end of 3.5, and it's how I do it in 4e too. Everyone gets 100-200xp for being on time. XP for killing monsters. (Almost by the book, I give out more xp than recommended because I want the group to level faster) XP for doing interesting things. If...

If it's not real then why call for "realism"?

I don't know, I'm still trying to figure out why 1984 and Slaughter House 5 aren't in the Science Fiction section.

How "deep" into a setting will you buy?

I buy the initial book or boxed set, a monster book if one is available, and a city book if one is available. I love cities and adventures that detail the city/area they are in for possible use in my homebrew. I may never use the adventure, but I've been known to use the city or area.

Future of WotC PDFs: Unofficial Sneak Preview?

I'm happy to unconfuse you. Good question. The answer is, I do buy the hardcopy the book. And I do so because it's easier to read. For example, I thought about getting the both the print and hardcopy of the new DC Heroes game through a special deal Green Ronin was having. But I ultimately...

Rules Compendium - Chaos Scar on map!

    1. You should still be able to edit the thread's title. 2. That is kind of cool. They use the map for Encounters too.

MERGED - "About Edition Wars" threads x9

Personaly, I'd rather send them to Usenet. And that's a mild one. I've seen threads on that topic with over a thousand posts at rec.games.frp.dnd.
