Do monsters block line of effect?

"Solid obstacle" means "a terrain feature that fills a square". The best evidence we have for this comes from the section (p. 280) that comes immediately before "Determining Cover", in which creatures are treated separately from terrain. But it's true: the book doesn't directly define "solid...

Yup. Why were you quoting me, exactly?:uhoh:

    Avenger. What am I missing?

Hmmm. The math and assumptions there are a bit dodgy. Any one else done a more rigorous analysis?

Sneak Attack Damage and Critical Hits

So..... and You'll note that it doesn't say "all extra damage, like from class features, can increase the damage...." The sources of the "extra damage" it is talking about is clearly spelled out: magic weapons and implements, as well as high crit weapons. It's an exclusive, not inclusive, list.

Sneak Attack Damage and Critical Hits

They are wrong, as is Norseman16469. ...that last is particularly surprising, as he sited the relevant passages. Perhaps if he read them more slowly? ;)

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

Me too! The time I care about most is gaming time. I don't know about you, but I get just 3.5 hours, max. I'm pretty content with not spending gaming time fussing over what's magical and whether I missed the "identify a magic item" check by 1. :)

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

Good job! Very team oriented. You'll note that each individual player made a decision here, not the party as a whole. And someone (you! <thumbs up!>) agreed to "take a hit for the team" by switching his PC concept, to pick up roles and skill he orginally didn't want. Now, suppose no one...

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

Which player made the choice not to have a skill (like Arcana)? You keep saying "they", as if "they" were a person, making choices.

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

@ Ryujin: Well done. Your question is very well composed; I salute you! ..and I'm srurpised to see such a correct CS response. ;) @Keenath: That would be my take as a DM --> most magic items are fancier than their mundane brethren, and therefore easier to pick out of a kobold armory. (Who...

Anyone else not feel "the grind"

<chuckle> ...if anything, 4e forces players who don't want many options to take 'em, rather than the reverse. I've got a friend who's playing a Fighter in 4e...'cause he wanted a "simple" PC. Ha! Playing the 4e fighter's taught him different. :heh:

Can you get too much healing?

I'd make a distinction here: being forced to use your Dalies (etc) isn't "not winning". We all know that the best-laid plans work perfectly....until you meet the enemy and start combat. Sh*t happens, and I'm cool with that.

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

Who made that choice, exactly? Which one of the players made the choice to not be a 'well-rounded-party'?

    PHB 2 power creep

(Whoa....goblins know a Wizard has the shield spell 'cuz he carries a staff? I don't think you meant that: could you clarify?) Why is it obvious that no damage is done? I think I would agree with you if you said: "When the monster hits the BRV fighter, it's pretty clear to all that the BRV...

XP for you, Cadfan. Well put. If you're clever and execute well, you should win.

So, about defenses aka. PHB2 defenses feats

I hear ya. In 3.xe, I know that many of us managed to play through to 20th level...and on into Epic. It's rare, but it happens. So...a toast: see you at 30th! <clink glasses> :D

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

 As it happens, right after our encounter with the strange puzzle, I went out and learned how to do Sudoku. I've been an addict ever since. Preach it, brother!

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

Neat! A DM of mine a while back put one of those in front of us...and none of us had ever seen a Sudoku, so we couldn't figure it out. At all. Not even a little bit. I would have been "disappointed" if we wouldn't have been able to continue the adventure because we couldn't solve a puzzle in...

Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

Errr....? It's true that a well-balanced party is the D&D archetype. But are you claiming that if the players don't cover all of the bases, the DM is powerless to not "screw them over"? Keenath's post said it's up to the DM how badly the PCs will miss the areas they don't have covered. I...
