Parties screwed without an Int-based PC?

On p. 223 (top), it says "you can determine the properties and powers of a magic item during a short rest". There's no check. However, in the description of the Arcana skill, it says: Sense the Presence of Magic: 1 minute. ✦ DC: DC 20 + one-half the level of a magic item, power (conjuration...

Has anyone created a creature list?

Fair 'nuff. It's true I'm not privy to WotC's balance sheets. I wish them luck! I know anecdotally, that me an' many of my gaming friends are spending less money on WotC than we did in 3e. That's hardly a scientific survey, though. I withdraw my bold claim until further evidence presents...

    PCs entering a room question

#1) Square "A". Draw a line from corner to corner. At least one doesn't touch hard cover. #2) The PC can change the remaining part of his move action once he sees the enemies in square(s) "E", IMO. The enemies should be using their stealth (or Dex) checks.

Has anyone created a creature list?

Haven't we seen layoffs, etc in the last 6 months? That doesn't happen if the money is flowing... But hey, I'm cool with WotC succeeding. I like the game they publish. ;)

    Healer's Lore and Healing Word

No worries, mate. It's a bug in the program (CharGen), not a feature of the rules.

So, about defenses aka. PHB2 defenses feats

Good point. These are becoming more and more difficult to accurately track in the games I play in. So far we've got it handled, but.... I thought 4e was supposed to be the "dumbed down" version of 3e. :D It's more complicated, not less.

Has anyone created a creature list?

...and yet, WotC's making less money than they did before. I wonder why?

Can you get too much healing?

As long as we're bustin' out the "thank you's". CapnZapp, thanks for being so tolerant, accepting, and gracious in your replies. Lots of posters have been critical of your gaming style and your assumptions, and you've taken it in stride. That's cool. Game on, man.

Anyone else not feel "the grind"

FWIW: So far I've not seen "the grind"...but I suspect that's because I currently play in:low level (now at 4th!) games, and my DMs know about the supposed grind, and do stuff to head it off at th' pass. ...so talking about it ain't bad. Spread th' word. ;)

Can you get too much healing?

This statement is worth pausing to think about. (Are you thinking about it, or just moving on?) :)

Can you get too much healing?

I, too, find CapnZapp's comment......"strange". I won't go as far as "unreasonable", as D&D is a game, so however you play the game is up to you. "Reason" has nothing to do with it. But should every encounter be about running out of healing? (Really???) I'm a bit flabergasted. :confused...

    Wall of Force question

#1) Wall of Force can't be used to make a cube; that's clear enough. So no "trapping" the dragon. #2) The Wall of Force doesn't need to be supported. It's an evocation spell, and the wall "cannot move", meaning it stays were put - even up in the air. #3) The dragon can notice invisible...

math analysis of DMG loot guidelines for starting PCs above level 1

It seems like you could use your baseline table "straight-up", evilbob, with the old 3e caveat that you couldn't purchase an item worth more than half the total.

    Defeating my powergamer Glave master

I'd be happy to see the rules text on this too. Anyone?

    Defeating my powergamer Glave master

I'm not sure the word "accurate" is the one you're looking for. :) "More detailed" perhaps. ;)

    Defeating my powergamer Glave master

That was the intent, IRRC. Controllers were supposed to be quite good with minions; Defenders were supposed to be quite good at tieing up one high value target.

Can you get too much healing?

FWIW, I think your primary "problem" is here. You have a certain image in your mind of what a "non-challenging encounter" is. I think (and others here have posted this too) that your perception is off. It's entirely possible to have an encounter that is both fun and challenging to your...

Can you get too much healing?

Thanks, guys. Thought-provoking responses, all. This is similar to what I'm concerned about. DMs can easily take meaningful choice away from the PCs, especially if overly concerned about healing surges.

Can you get too much healing?

So, an honest question: Is "failing" a meaningful (or "legitimate" or "reasonable") choice (in gaming)?
