    Broken things errata'ed, July 2009

FWIW, the problem now with BRV is...you'll not often get to use the +1(or +2) damage to your attacks. Before, you could rely on getting THP from getting hit before your turn. Your AC was low (chain), and you are the defender, so you are *bound* to get hit during that first round of combat...

    Ranger Balance

Depends. In KotS, the first section of the adventure is outdoors. It's (theoretically) possible for the terrain to give LoS to 30 squares. As I look at the maps spread out on the desk in front of me, I find that not possible without the DM expanding the map beyond the poster map borders (and...

Can a dead character be healed by RAW? (Forked Thread: Bloodied vs. Dying)

FWIW, I have also found that changing rules because I think they are "unrealistic" has lead to as many problems as changing it solved. For one thing, how I view "how things work" is simply different than how other folks see it. Far better to just stick with RAW whenever possible.

So.... why, exactly, is Lay on Hands an at-will?

That's an interesting point that hadn't "sunk in" until now: the BBEG could use a dominated pally to heal itself, only becuase LoH is an At-Will. Nifty!

    Bloodied vs. Dying

Your paraphrasing is inaccurate, which is leading you to an erroneous conclusion. (FWIW, I understand why you might think this is the way it works, especially if you've played other gaming systems.) #1) A PC can be "dying" without first being between 0 and half her hp value. Dying is NOT...

    PHB2 Classes simply better?

dracoSuave makes some good points. Especially: There are no "V" classes in the PH2, which already tells you the designers learned something between PH1 and PH2. More class powers are official "At-Will" class features, rather than hidden in a paragraph of the class abilities. Again, another...

    Bloodied vs. Dying

You are dodging the question: "Could you interpret the example you quoted to support the rule that says 'bloodied means below bloodied value'?" The answer is: "Yep". As keterys, Regicide, and Stalker0 have said, the example does not preclude being bloodied when dying. It doesn't confirm it...

    HELP! Avenger issue

Agreed. Tangent: has anyone done a striker-heavy party, and then done a striker-light party? Difference in combat lengths?

    Bloodied vs. Dying

"The fallacy" is that a PC at negative hps does not have less than half his hps. ;) There is no "lack of a rule" here. Dying and bloodied are not mutually exclusive. In fact, most conditions in 4e are not mutually exclusive. If you think dying and bloodied are mutually exclusive, you must...

    Bloodied vs. Dying

subrosas' basic point is sound: Absence of a specific rule about bloodied under the dying section doesn't mean or imply you are not bloodied when dieing. Moreover, the rules neither say nor imply that bloodied is one stop along "status track", with dying at the end. The rules DO say when a PC...

    Bloodied vs. Dying

Right. Bloodied is clearly defined: "You are bloodied when your current hit points drop to your bloodied value or lower." I'm not sure how this is ambiguous to some posters. If you are at negative hp, are your hps below your bloodied value? (A: Yep.) Dying is clearly defined: "When your...

    Rules for selling gems?

Truth. FWIW, I wish players were a bit more forth-coming about what house-rules they think increase tedium. Give the DM a (polite) heads-up, maybe via private email.

So.... why, exactly, is Lay on Hands an at-will?

I know that when introducing newbies to the game, having Lay On Hands labeled as an "At-Will" is confusing. That said, it's not exactly a "Daily" either, as it's not "used up" at the end of an encounter. Put differently: Are there any other Dailies that you can activate during an encounter...
