Hmmmm. I'd have to see a (somewhat common) example of that to believe it.

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

I think.....I think that further errata that *improves* CS/SS is very unlikely. If you look at the pattern of errata, they generally post errata if something is either:Confusing/poorly written, or Too powerful by far.I can't think of an errata that was posted because something was too weak.

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Agreed. You might be on to something there with the extra stat damage: I'd recommend Dex. That might not only fix it, but give it the role-playing flavor necessary. Hmmm. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I don't agree....at least with your inclusion of the word "most". IMO, it's best if an At-Will...

Need opinions on a Fighter level 2 Utility...

That's a pretty good set of At-Wills. Given your PC's ability to push and slide Bad Guys, I can't see much of a reason to take Pass Forward. That said, if your fighter had other At-Wills, such that you weren't already moving the enemy around, Pass Forward becomes valuable. And since Pass...

Need opinions on a Fighter level 2 Utility...

FWIW, I went with Pass Foward. (Human BRV Ftr, Shield and Craghammer) I find that - at best - I use it once per encounter. So the fact that it's an At-Will is meaningless. It's less powerful because it's an At-Will, yet it's used as an effective Encounter power. I've found the power to be...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Of course not. But the option you are describing isn't "slow and safe". ...And as you are demonstrating with your posts, that fact is slightly hidden. It's uncool to design a piece of the game that way IMO. There are NOT "plenty" of situations where CA/SS is better. There are "exceptionally...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Ouch. I'm afraid you might not understand the scope of the problem with Sure Strike/Careful Attack. To put it bluntly, they are worse than a Basic Melee Attack against all but minions. ...and against minions, you'll be wanting Cleave anyway. Soldiers? Soldiers would laugh if you used Sure...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

.....which was an absolute disaster. NOT the way I want them to do things in 4.xe. Errata should be minor. Errata should be free. Errata should not be a huge patch stuffed into a book you have to buy. :hmm:

    Help keeping my players alive

Why? How many encounters you have per day is (almost) entirely dependent on DM style. After playing with a DM for a while, you begin to get a sense of how he does things. (Not to mention the fact that the DM gets a sense of how the players do things!) It's a pretty reliable maxim that if the...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

It would be pretty cool if there was a "MapTools Tips" thread. My DM could use the info, and I'd point him to it if I could find one.

    Help keeping my players alive

...Ahem..... #1) The players learned you only throw 2 fights a day at them. #2) Suddenly, that ground rule has been changed => by you, the DM. #3) I'm not sure they're going to learn "resource management". I think they're going to learn that you'll change the ground rules on them.

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

This would be easy to detemine.....Wasn't there a "math" thread early on that crunched all the MM numbers? I don't have it bookmarked from my home computer, but I know it's out there.

    Initiative Order Question

Let's assume - for a moment - that WotC didn't make a mistake in the module. Q: Why publish the initiative numbers? A: So the DM wouldn't need to roll initiative for the trap. Traps, like monsters, get initiative rolls. that's so we know when the trap "acts". But once we know who goes...

Keep on the Shadowfell - Irontooth

Flaming Sphere is just a super Wizard Daily. We love our wizard for it. As for your first point: "Go Slow" is a good way to approach most WotC-published adventures. I know from 3.xe that most Dungeon adventures could be broken wide open by taking your time and letting the monsters come to...

    "loseing is not cost effective"

Yep. On a "per day" level, Healing Surges top th' list of Most Important Things to Conserve. Daily powers and Daily magic item powers are far less important, especially at low levels. After Healing Surges and Dailies, there's Action Points and extra magic item uses. Lately those that I...

    Encounters

Tell the PCs very clearly: they need 5 minutes to recharge their encounter powers. They should do it as often as they can. Never charge into another encounter....unless there is a tremendous time crunch. (...and always put on your armor when waking up from sleeping...even if there is a...

Keep on the Shadowfell - Irontooth

...yeah..... As soon as I see the phrase "monsters played intelligently", I get a bit skeptical. In games I've seen, that sometimes means "using information the monsters wouldn't have" combined with "thinking out how best to attack the specific PCs in question". Ugg. (I'm saying this as a...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

FWIW, in one game I play in, we use laptops and MapTools. Combats take *forever*. And the "fiddly bits" out of combat really slow us down too. Destraction runs rampant in that group.:-S
