    Most overpowered / underpowered ?

If there's one thing this thread should teach anyone that reads it: The term "overpowered" is meaningless without a huge explanitory paragraph by the person writing. In my case, I think "overpowered" is best applied when comparing one PC in a party to another in that same party. Put another...

    Most overpowered / underpowered ?

This is worth saying again: In 4e, doing damage is NOT the only thing to consider; its also how well you take damage. If you've got a thin front line - perhaps only 2 melee PCs - then that front line will be taken down (or avoided) too easily. Your party needs more up in front, even if that...

D&D 4E D&D 4E and psychology: Hit chance too low?

That's not true. Being "effective" in 4e only means that you can face and overcome level-appropriate challenges. You'd be hard pressed to build a 4e PC that's "well-rounded" and yet unable to be effective. (In 3e, this was not as true.) What you are talking about is entirely a DM issue. If...

Nerfing the Archer Ranger a little

Yep. ell said. Exactly. Rangers are a threat. Threats should be attacked and squashed. What's the rules problem here?

D&D 5E (2014) No next turn, indefiniate effect?

...so we can trace the conspiracy against Bagpuss that far back, at least..... Interesting....what else will you reveal, poster-whose-name-is-supposedly-azaroth42? ...And what does 42 mean? That many versions of your identity? Or is it the Answer To Everything(tm)?

    D&D 4E 4E updates/errata posted today 1/20/2009

Thread derail: I disagree. If the PCs have overcome a challenge, they get XP.....right? Social skill challenges only differ from physical skill challenges (like disarming a trap) in the skill sthat are used, nothing more. Given that, I see no reason why reaching a milestone after 2 social...

D&D 4E Goodbye Descent. How 4e Made this Jaded Dad Love D&D Again.

As a D&D gamer almost 30 years, that's so interesting to hear. Thanks, Bran Mak Morn. FWIW, I currently play 3.5e D&D with my 11-yr old daughter and three of her friends plus another dad. ...So really, 3.5e ain't all that bad fer th' young folks..... In my "older folks" games, we play 4e...

Thanks, Crenshaw. Good post! You should check out this post, 'cause it's a similar story.

You bet! BTW, has Veteran's Armor been roundly decried as overpowered? This one (veteran's Armor) was a strange one to be caught in the "over-powered" net. It seems like the "errata elves" don't read ENWorld much. Ah well.

Good analysis.... ...but remember you should also be judging other armors you PC could also find (or purchase). In adventure design, there are few treasure parcel slots for a level 2 item. So it's better to give your DM a "mid-range" armor, rather than low-balling it. So for a level 2 PC...

For example, at the end of the PH errata, they write this: The tables below track the changes to each release of the update document. Version 4 (1/09): Page 98 Exalted Retribution [Deletion] Page 122 Shadow Stride [Revision] Page 137 Thirsting Maw [Addition] Page 162 Wall of Fog [Revision]...

They don't have a "file", but they do list at the end of each errata what's been changed when.

Effects - do they require a successful hit to work?

Like Hypersmurf, I'm curious: Do you have an example of a power in which the Effect line is indented under the Hit line? (Unlike Hypersmurf, I don't have the answer beforehand. :))

Do Leaders act as Force Multipliers?

Leaders can only be "force multipliers" if they are able to give out a bonus to multiple people with just one action. I've not seen a lot of powers that do that.....dailies perhaps, but not encounter powers.

Can sustained conjurations and zones fly?

I don't see any reason why you couldn't target a square above "ground". Agreed. If you can move the power's effect, the power tells you how far you can move it. So why not up? Conjurations (IIRC) don't have a "speed", so creature movement rules do not necessarily apply. For example, does a...

    Battlerager: Experiences?

One last bit: I'm looking at KotS, the first WotC-published module. I notice that the minions have ranged weapons. I notice that several encounters explicitly lay out how at least some of the minions are meant to hang back and pelt the PCs with missile weapons. Surely some missile fire is to...
