Visions of Avarice trivializes melee encounters?

I agree the "tricking" can be wrapped up in the attack roll. That's not what's wrong (IMO, anyway). The problem I have is that at least one of the effects of the attack (immobilized) isn't readily explained as "being tricked or deceived" (Illusion) => it's far more easily explained as "being...

    Expertise justification?

"Are the expertise feats required at paragon and epic tiers of play?" To answer this, we're going to have to come to an understanding about what "required" (or "playable" or "fun" or whatever) means. And I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll not be able to agree on this, as much depends on...

    <chuckle> Yeah. Me too, sometimes.

Does a worn Holy Symbol take up an Item Slot?

Agreed. It's too bad that - although they have a "free hand", since they aren't carrying their holy symbol there - clerics aren't normally proficient with shields.

Anyone know why vulnerabilities are gone?

Good question. IMO, they should bring 'em back. It makes no sense that Frost Hounds don't have fire vulnerability. Of course, for the edition I've been saying "it makes no sense" alot.... Ah well. Time to drink more o' that Kool-aid.

Visions of Avarice trivializes melee encounters?

Sorry, but could we spell "explicitly" and "implicitly" right? Thanks. I love the thread discussion, but that silent "e" you keep slipping in there ruins the versilimitude for me. :) [EDIT]...and FWIW, I agree with Karinsdad: the rules for illusions should make them separate from charms &...

    Expertise justification?

I'm having a bit of trouble following your english. Let me paraphrase you, and you let me know if I've gotten it right: You claim that the central debate in this thread is "Are the expertise feats required at paragon and epic tiers of play?" Is that what you are saying?

    Expertise justification?

That's just no end of suck, right there. A defender that gets weaker if he drops.

Does a worn Holy Symbol take up an Item Slot?

Exactly. As has been pointed out, the RAW specifically says Holy Symbols are worn (unlike other implements, which must be carried in your hand to function). Since the RAW does not specify where you must wear your holy sysmbol, holy symbols do not occupy one of the standard "item slots"...

Visions of Avarice trivializes melee encounters?

These sorts of mistakes are easy to do. Don't feel bad; just read over the text of the power (slowly) again. For reference: Effect: The power's area becomes a zone of illusory treasure that lasts until the end of your next turn. Once per turn, you can make the following attack, using the zone...

    Expertise justification?

He rocks. Seriously, this PC saves our bacon almost every combat. His growth as a taclord has been cool to see. Now if only we could keep him from getting dropped in these big battles..... Arrrrrrgggggg!!!! <shakes fist at stars, ruefully chuckles> Ah well. Perhaps now my motivations for...

    Expertise justification?

That's a good analysis. Thanks! FWIW: I think if you took a poll of all of the players (me included!), you'd find we think your campaign is deadly enough, thank-you-very-much. :D (I'm thinking of several conversations after the night's gaming is over.) So although your analysis of the...

    Metallic Dragons: Unaligned!?

There's no doubt there are crunch changes between editions. So pointing out halflings now move 6 (which I think is no end of silly), isn't proving much. The big fluff things (that I can IIRC right now) between 2e and 3e don't strike me as much different than 3e to 4e. But perhaps I've...

    Expertise justification?

I'm glad to hear it. The night you surprised us with the "Monsters will Coup de Grace" policy, it seemed that you meant "from now on". I'm very happy to hear that's not true. I have misgivings about it for *any* monster group, but.... c'est la guerre. Ha! Now I *know* yer pulling my...

    Expertise justification?

We're all 4th level, so we all have 1 Daily (not including utilities). In the "nasty" battle we used 3 Dailies, IIRC. I have *got* to get a better Daily for my fighter; it's just not as much of a "tide turner" as what the Cleric, Swordmage, and Warlord have. I'd love a Daily like the rogue's...

    Metallic Dragons: Unaligned!?

Huh. That's a very interesting assertion. Uhmm....are you sure? Just thinking back to some of the supported settings, I think a see a pattern of large fluff changes between all editions. ...I think. Any more insight here?

    Expertise justification?

It was a nasty fight (in a good way!). I was convinced by round 2 that we had at least 2 deaths-on-the-way (because of your "Monsters will coup-de-grace" policy), and that without those 2 the rest of us were humped. The only way we got through that battle is by pulling out absolutely every...

Viper's Strike and Combat Challenge interaction question

...but given how long it took *me* to think through, it's pretty reasonable that many monsters would make the mistake of trying to shift....at least once.
