Some great stuff here, PC. Much of this advice is useful for running games in general, not just for con games. But you forgot to mention the part about how to make little girls cry.

I know there are pdfs out there, but I don't know if they are legal. Probably not. Keep an eye on ebay. Some copies are in great condition and sell for way too much, but let the collectors buy those. Look for more used or worn copies, as long as the pages are legible.

DTRPG does not set the prices. The individual publishers set their own prices. You will find that many follow the policy of pricing the pdfs at or near the price of the actual books, and some do not.

Amazon.com seems to think it is the same guy. When you look up "Who is the Beast?", as with most books you can click the author's name to see other books by the same author. The link leads to several Eberron books. And of course we all know if Amazon says it then it must be true.

My first thought was to play a class that is regarded as underpowered. Maybe even and NPC class. And I like the suggestion to play a race that takes a couple of ability score hits. Maybe a half-orc Noble, bastard son of the Duke.
