I've always understood the phrase "or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task" to forbid being on watch, as this would be mentally demanding. Do others allow elf wizards to meditate for 4 hours and then take a 4 hour watch and consider this 8 hours of rest?

Don't we usually ask that a poster with a changed name carry a .sig for a while that references the former name? Such as "This poster was once know as Minky McHoochBottom". I saw this thread after the change had been enacted, so I have no way of knowing who Minky once was.

I voted 11-15, had a sorcerer make it to 14th level, but the game ended there. It was also the higher level character I have played in the 3.x edition of the game. I fully intended to remain single-classed had the campaign continued.

No knock on my DM, but I agree with those who suggested C&C. But the best answer is probably to go with what the DM knows best. As loki44 mentioned, in older editions of the game the players did not need to know all the rules. Part of the wonder is discovering as you go along. If the DM knows...

Well, helping my PC also accomplishes stuff the other PCs want, like saving the world and such. Although saving the others will be difficult, so would convincing a new group of PCs go down the same path.
