    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

Eh. Aside from the setting specific monster books (e.g. Monsters of Faerun), I can't think of a monster description from 3.x that included phrases like "...when the forces of Iuz attacked Verbobonc...." (I don't think that exact phrase-equivalent is in any of the Bestiaries mind you, its a...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

I go mine on Saturday. Quick takes. 1) I like the new dragons. I'll miss the old style elemental dragons, but the new "tradition-bound" dragons work really well, and give room for a lot more, and thematically stronger, dragons. I also feel sorry for the new Fortune Dragon, also voted as "Most...

    Mutants and Masterminds 3e

I hope you mean the Third Edition of Mutants and Masterminds, and not the first Iteration of the Mutants and Masterminds ruleset which was based on the 3.0 SRD. The former is, indeed, a solid system. If you mean the latter, do yourself a huge favor and get the former instead.

    D&D General March Madness 2024 - Round 5 - Casters Semi-Final

And yet, from what I remember from the original trilogy. The Druid of Shannara (whose name I forget) would actually be better modeled as a Wizard - an arcane scholar who plunders the depths of forgotten lore (to protect the world), rather than a shape-changing nature priest. Gandalf, not...

D&D General what environments feel lacking in nice people?

Yeah. I like my Alternate Primes/Multiverse. If it was good enough for Heinlein, it's good enough for me. :P

D&D General what environments feel lacking in nice people?

The multiverse is alternate primes. I could have sworn 3.x still had them. Cubic Gates usually/often had one as one of the 6. And I'm pretty sure Manual of the Planes mentions them when it's talking about color pools. I guess that'd be 4e. Which makes sense since that's when they threw out the...

Pathfinder 2E The starknife hurts my brain

Have you ever seen a picture of a mambele? That's actually a throwing weapon.

D&D General what environments feel lacking in nice people?

Some of them. In others, everyone is like the Addams Family and the Munsters. In others, everyone's an intelligent bear or pony. Oh - and Dinosaur World. Can't forget that one. (Sigh. When did D&D lose the concept of Alternate Primes?)

D&D General what environments feel lacking in nice people?

Don't forget the Immaterial Planes - the Ethereal and Astral planes can run you into some Blue/Orange morality issues. Then there's the Far Realms. And let's not forget the "Alternate Prime" where everything is flipped.

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] How do you make 5E more challenging?

I've generally found that the problem with the 5e monsters is that they aren't durable enough. So let's not forget the trivial"make the monsters" tougher hacks: a) give them more HP (usually the HP of a monster CR 2 higher - and only the HP). b) Increase the AC. Also, give boss monsters one or...

Pathfinder 2E The starknife hurts my brain

(Short) Spikes on vambraces and greaves would work. And shoulder-spikes augmenting/replacing a gorget would work. But yeah, spiky all-over is just for intimidation. And depending on where and how long the spikes are, possibly mobility-reducing and unwise.

Pathfinder 2E The starknife hurts my brain

Most likely cause of your problem is artist ignorance, I think. Rotate the handle so its inline with one pair of blades (instead of offset), and most of your problem would disappear I think. As for throwing, IDK, maybe a one-handed baton twirl kind of thing?

    Rules-Lite VS "Crunchy" TTRPG Systems

Unfortunately, I can't answer that one - I've never played in a PBtA (or its derivatives) game. Nor do I own a copy of the rules. I know there's a strong "player empowerment" thread in game design these days. I think that'd just invert the problem, not fix it. And while is mitigated by the...

    D&D General March Madness 2024 - Round 4 - Martials Quarter-Finals

Did you ever try the 3.5 Scout? It was probably the best skirmisher class I've seen. I really liked how it required you to be mobile to actually get its bennies.

    Rules-Lite VS "Crunchy" TTRPG Systems

    1. GM shortage; it's always been a problem. Whether its a real one, or merely a perception issue, is actually immaterial here - the effect is the same. 2. Styles of play(?) If you expect a killer wargamer of a GM, the Machiavellian storyteller will be problematic. Likewise if you're expecting an...

    D&D General March Madness 2024 - Round 4 - Martials Quarter-Finals

Eh. 5e Ranger's not a bad class, it just has the bolted on shiny. Thanks to a certain emo elf, Two-Weapon Fighting has become bound to the Ranger, when it shouldn't really be bound to any class. And if you look at the original source material, Beastmaster should really be filed under Barbarian...

    Grade the Silhouette System

I have Tribe 8. I was really impressed with the setting - the post-apocalyptic/meta-physical vibe was freaky but worked. I never found a group suited for playing it though, and it's been sitting on my shelf since I bought it.

    Rules-Lite VS "Crunchy" TTRPG Systems

"Medium-crunch" is definitely a thing, even if it varies wildly. Not LITE && Not Heavy == Medium. Sadly, I haven't seen any better definition than that. I'd be nice if we could point to some objective weighting. And while your point about "groking" a system reducing its perceived weight is...

How Visible To players Should The Rules Be?

+1 for "players should know". Not for any theoretical, or ideological reason, but for the simple practical reason that it makes my job as GM easier.
