    Musings On Post Apocalyptic RPGs

I'd say a good guidance is when the survivors/new civilizations stop scavenging the old world's stuff for survival/growth. As a necessary component of research ("Nothing we can do is as good and we can learn.") is a bit of a gray area. But by the time the societies are doing new stuff on their...

    Musings On Post Apocalyptic RPGs

Actually, I think the biggest setting issue (blending towards mechanics) are "ancient" ruins filled with wonders and terrors that the current civilization just can't reproduce. Without that, or with too little emphasis on that, it is just a general fantasy/sci-fi setting. The base Numenera...

    Favorite superhero RPGs?

Yeah. They sacrificed the low end to make the high-end more playable. They were also very up front about that (and the durable forks issue). You could get around it by re-baselining the AP benchmarks, but it usually wasn't worth the trouble.

    Favorite superhero RPGs?

Favorite Supers RPG? That's tricky. The Wild Talents system (technically One Roll Engine, powering Godlike and Reign as well) has probably one of the most elegant resolution mechanics I've ever seen. And its Paragons setting does an incredible job of modelling a modern "indie" supers setting...

Pathfinder 2E Test Pathfinder’s New Online ‘Nexus’

Uh-huh. Cool. Neat. How does it interface with existing VTTs, like Roll20, Foundry, or Fantasy Grounds? Oh, and before I miss it - how easy is it to roll my own adventures?

    D&D 5E (2014) Best VTT for automating 5e combat

Pretty much. It's actually fairly easy to home brew monsters. The only real negative is the fact that you have to be very specific in your language to get the automation to kick in. And there are some effects that are just un-automatable. And some of those "only-manual" effects are pretty basic...

D&D General Low Magic vs. High; what is the difference, and are we confusing them with Low vs. High Fantasy?

So part of D&D's problem is that the rules go from Low Fantasy to High Fantasy as the characters progress in levels. So to get Low Fantasy a simple way would be to cap levels somewhere between 7 and 10. The old E6 variant of D20 would be a good approach to this. But the difference between Low...

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Rise of Tiamat" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

The follow ons for the Merisal side. These never got fleshed out because the main adventure was getting awful long as it was, and I didn't feel the need to add more content. Mole or Double Agent? If the characters have managed to turn Talis or some other cultist, intelligence provided by them...

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Rise of Tiamat" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

Death at the Council This adventure is intended to be run just after the First Council, while the characters are in Waterdeep reporting on the results of their first mission. When the Cult of the Dragon contacted the devils of the hells for their aid, the Duchess Zariel arranged for Merisal to...

D6 Ways to be a Great Game Moderator

Stretch yourself. Experiment with techniques and methods. If you always run pre-prepared adventures, write a small one. If you're just glossing over NPCs, script a scene or three where you have to roleplay a detailed NPC. If you always design a world top-down, run a hex-ploration arc or...

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Rise of Tiamat" (Practical stuff to try at your table!)

Merisal WANTS someone (the characters) to discover her plot. Athil's very obvious behavior is the primary intended hook, but feel free to use anything. If you need a more direct hook, have one of the council (the Harper, or Lord Neverember) assign them the investigation. Athil is one of the...
