    Possible paladin codes

Monte's BoHM has a decent code. I adapted it into this:

    New WotC Campaign Setting

Remember too that part of Eberron's buying frenzy was : 1) It came from the setting search. I bought a copy, over and above any other reasons, to let them know it was a good idea. 2) It coincided with 3.5. In fact, it's the only official setting that's purely 3.5.

    Halloween Costume

Dungeon: Big cardboard box, painted as a dungeon cell. In the front, have a pair of skinny, raggeddy, prisoner hands grasping the bars of the cell door window. Dragon: Think chinese. Dragon mask, red clothing (possibly embroidered with dragons), red scales painted over visibile flesh.

How do you like you psionic flavor?

Well, in my current "kitchen sink" campaign, psionics manipulates the universal energy, while divine and arcane manipulate the waste energy of superscience powerplant. Strangely enough, I like wizards and clerics. In my new campaign, psionics is both elemental and natural; it's a lot like...

    Mounted PrCs?

Also check out Knight Protector (CW). Finally, if you haven't already, examine the Paladin/Ranger/Halfling Outrider combination. See WotC's Character Optimization boards for details on the resulting "Ubermount".

A quick look at Intimidate: the D&D wunderskill

Greywulf, considering your original post included a rules quote, I think my point that 3.5 Intimidate is one of the most poorly written skills I've seen is rather to the point. Personally, I regard this flaw as right up there with the 3.5 "Brightening Darkness" (Darkness now providing 'shadowy...

A quick look at Intimidate: the D&D wunderskill

Yes, but the problem is that to use the standard action version, you need to be not just in combat, but in *melee* combat. In particular, you need to be threatening (in the technical D&D sense) your target. In none of the examples that I provide is any of that true. (OK the Batman's a bit of a...

Shopping for a new magic system

Um. You have checked out psionics, yes? Augmentable spells, choose energy types at casting, and other goodies. And it's in the SRD, to boot. If you're willing to look at 3rd party systems, Monte's AE is probably your next best choice (or best, depending on your preferences). More complex, but...

A quick look at Intimidate: the D&D wunderskill

Don't forget that the standard action version also requires you to be in *melee* combat. Batman looming over the punk and getting him to talk without throwing a punch? That's Diplomacy. Robin Hood standing 60' away from the Sherrif of Nottingham with all the Merry Men at his back, leveling...

[Problem] Too Many Players: Who Gets to Play?

Crothian's suggestion sounds best to me. Think of it like a TV show with a large main cast - not every character is in every episode (session or adventure), but they all get a roughly equal share of time. Since you like a detail-oriented campaign this might even be easier for you to pull off...

    Opinions on the non-PHB races?

I can't speak for play for most of these, but I've read through most. My responses are mainly flavor/concept based Don't forget the "minor" races. Catfolk, Centaur, Gnoll, Killoren; Chaos Gnome, Dream Dwarf, Feral Gargun, Stonechild, Whisper Gnome; Aasimar, Doppleganger, Half-ogre...

    Poll for "homebrew" DMs

Well, I've been working on my new setting about 5 hours a week (on average) since May. I'm just finishing up. I've been tweaking and fiddling with my old setting for almost 25 years, off and on. And that's over and above adventure prep.

[Free] Ways of Getting a Campaign Setting Online?

Well, a Livejournal blog can work, but you'd have to be careful how you organize things. A Yahoo Groups can also work, especially if most of your existing stuff isn't HTML already (you can just upload the raw files). Myspace would probably work (though I've never looked). There's also...

    Units of game-design complexity?

Hey, I can get behind gygaxes too. A dual "unit" system for complexity would even be appropriate. How about cribbing a scale from MEGS (one of the most elegant & simple systems I know)? 10 THACOs equals 1 gygax. Each gygax is 1000 times as complex as the previous, so each +1 THACO represents a...

    Units of game-design complexity?

What, no one's mentioned the THACO? How can you get a better unit than the thing they completely redesigned D"&D to get rid of? Most rules in 3e are fractional THACOs, but I think AoOs probably represent at least a whole unit. Rolemaster combat is at least 10 THACOs.

    Homebrew settings and player appeal

From the opposite end... I'm a homebrew DM. Other have covered all the responses I could give on that point as well, or better, than I. I also play. I *prefer* to play in homebrews. Because, contrary to your original post, I've found that it's the GMs who rely on published settings who are...

    Ceramic DM -- Fall '06 ** yangnome wins! **

Interesting feedback, thanks Berandor. Rodrigo, I'll offer a third alternative - a dummy partner. I'm getting good feedback/exercise, and I'd like to continue stretching my skills. OTOH, I'm not sure what the point would be for my (the dummy's) opponent - it's just more exercise, and a...

    Ceramic DM -- Fall '06 ** yangnome wins! **

Well, let's see if I can satisfy that curiousity. The key picture for me was the man with a sword and the marble slab. Despite the "No visions" thing for CDM, it was too abstract for me to think of it in any other way. The other complicator was the penguin. As I said in the story, penguins...

Well, I lose all of this weekend. Next week is better for me. I'm fine with any of the competition alternatives.
