    What's up with Scottish Dwarves?!?

"Please, please don't send me down the Mines of Mafia!" I like it :) /greywulf imagines Dwarves riding Vespas. Badly.

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

I've added Bert's truly excellent The Scarlet Sea campaign mini-setting and adventure to the Microlite20 site. It's a pocketmod download pdf. It uses a few maps from WoTC's map a week site, so I've provided links to them too. I've also added his Skills and Feats pocketbook into the Downloads...

D&D - Thinking outside of the box

I'm with Jurgen on this. It's one thing to know D&D's core asumptions, and a far better thing to know how and when to break them. A lot of D&D's sacred cows are enshrined in the rules - including how magic works, alignments, how the planes work, etc - and that's fine, as it gives us a baseline...

    Is Originality important ?

I'm with everyone else. Steal and mix. Cross genres. If the plagiarism is going to be obvious, make it /really/ obvious (good point, Blue Sky). It works best if you take the idea and put it in a different context. Using the plot for Macbeth in a low magic fantasy setting is good, but having...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

EXCELLENT! I'm glad it worked as well as we hoped. The idea of using HARP's crit tables with M20 scars me.....in a tempting kind of way :)

    Are dice perfectly balanced?

If the dice aren't balanced it's clearly the fault of the designer. How can they expect us to manage with just 4 sides? d4s are clearly way underpowered. And d20s just roll too high to be usable. Some of my players use d20s all the time, making my job as DM too difficult. I shouldn't have to...

    d5 uses?

    1. Roll to see which finger is removed by Jack Baur during interrogation 2. Roll random working day of the week 3. Damage for a serrated dagger? 4. Random direction when lost (where 1, 2, 3, 4 = N, S, E, W and 5 = Ravenloft) 5. 4d5 to replace d20. Better weighted average 6. Random class...

    What's up with Scottish Dwarves?!?

Lemme see..... Dwarves are stereotypically tight with their money, dour, live in clans, prone to drinking lots of alcohol and enjoy a good fight. No, I can't see anything to link them to the Scots at all......... :D

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

Snikle, sounds good to me :) I like the idea of making the Cleric actually act like a Cleric. I’m glad you found as solution that works for you, and gets the player happy with the whole Cleric thing. One of these days, I ought to work out how to integrate Psionics in to M20, if only for the...

Get the D&D Rules Cyclopedia and use the Domain rules from there. Works brilliantly.

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

What Kensanata said, twice. I figured that channelling magic of any kind must take it's physical toll on a frail mortal form, whether the source of the magic is the Gods, the mystical weave, animal spirits, or wherever. As to how those Hit Points are lost, that's entirely open to the...

Is it really so important that everything is equal?

Mark, I think it's something deisgners might want to consider, as it probably means that 65% of their audience aren't that bothered if the classes, feats, etc aren't balanced to perfection - but it's the remaining 1/3 who make all the noise :)

Is it really so important that everything is equal?

Importance is a relative scale; it's not an absolute. To me, "Balance" is less important than fun, playability, originality, interestingness, whether it fits into the campaign, imagination, flexibility and a whole raft of other requirements. I appreciate that other folks will rate it higher...

Dragon Shaman (and other "aura" / buff classes)

Great timing on this thread. I've just generated a Dracha (from Arcana Evolved) Dragon Shaman, and I'm dying to play him next game. Thanks for the tips about the feats in the Draconomicon. I'll take a look at those. As regards Bards, I've never liked the purple double-and-hose wearing pansies...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

Thanks, snikle. I'm expecting playtest feedback early next week, so I hope it works! More posting later, including some Magic Items for Microlite20 and a write-up of the climactic end to Chicken Royale. I really ought to write it up as a M20 Modern adventure too.

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

Yep, he's at +5 total to hit, nothing more to add except maybe situation modifiers. In m20 terms, he's got +3 from his HD, +2 from somewhere else, probably STR. Hope that clarifies :)
