    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

Based on the recent history, if the balance was screwed up, I'd imagine WotC would errata things back to a more reasonable number pretty quickly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

Quoting myself from a year and a day ago. From what I've heard, this sounds a lot like what I envisioned in my head. I'm cautiously optimistic. In theory I want more class differentiation on the implementation of the core structure. In practice, I haven't really cared that much around a...

My sub ran out, but I can still access D&D Insider...

Have you tried logging out or clearing your cookies? As a hunch, I bet that when you log in it checks your status, but the cookie that gets sent to your computer doesn't contain the expiration date for your account.

    Do you pull the chain?

Picking a character concept optimized for adventure is pretty clearly metagaming. Its using your knowledge about the game to determine your choices inside the game.

    Do you pull the chain?

Yes it is metagaming. But then again, in most cases, if you didn't metagame to the point of having your PC doing interesting things, after a few levels, your PC would sell his magic items, buy a bit of land, and hire a few nubile maidens to keep him warm for the rest of his days.

    Do you pull the chain?

I'd argue that a DM has two responsibilities. First, there's the world creation aspect. He needs to create a consistent world with creatures, perhaps some of whom would end up constructing such a dungeon. Second, the DM has the responsibility of the spotlight. Describing every brick, rock...

    Do you pull the chain?

Then obviously you should have pulled the chain immediately upon entering the dungeon. All the XP for killing everything in the dungeon would more than counterbalance the loss from the inevitable resurrection. Anyway, I'd find a way to pull the chain. Even if it were marked "Danger: Do Not...

What are the intangibles that make D&D fun?

    For me, its margaritas.

    rumored leveraged buyout of Hasbro

I'd also be surprised if a smaller business could pull the same sort of talent that HAS can. Ridley Scott doing a Monopoly movie for example. Of course, I would say that the experince with the first DnD movie would be enough to turn the business off of it.

    Mouseguard

I've only read a few of the comics. That said, I don't think canon would be a big deal. If you specifically bring in characters from the comic, then maybe. But to me, because mice live relatively short lives, moving the events a few years from the comic would mean that there's no canon...

    rumored leveraged buyout of Hasbro

That's likely true generally. I'd argue though that HAS' ownership of WotC pretty closely resembles how a private company would work. WotC barely rates a mention in relation to HAS. WotC is an LLC owned by HAS. Its not like public analysts currently have access to WotC's books anyway. WotC...

    rumored leveraged buyout of Hasbro

It's not a matter of how they spend the money, its the fact that a new edition is going to be preceded by poor sales. An announcement means that there's no reason to buy new products for the old edition. The point being that HAS has been a fairly benevolent handler of D&D.

    rumored leveraged buyout of Hasbro

Under the theory that only quarterly numbers matter, there's no way then for a new edition to ever be written. 4e was associated with a year of really low sales, clearly contradictory to the idea that only continually meeting quarterly numbers matters.

Preview of the new D&D COmic!

I dunno if I should be impressed that I got jonrog1's vibe from that without even knowing he was a writer for this or not. For those complaining about a DnD comic being very stereotyped, I'd at least give it a chance. My impression of his writing is that he's able to work interesting...

    DnD Novels Dead?

I don't know if its a transformation or an experimentation. Attempting to bring in more players by trying a different format and pricepoint seems like something the brand should do every so often.

    Status of D&D Game Table?

Right, so they did outsource the VTT. That's a big part of why it ended up imploding. The outsourced developer just couldn't deliver.

    New PC Brainstorming

The underdark book strongly gave me the impression that the planes are layered. I know MotP does say that its not literally like that, but I actually really like the idea that it is. The world is flat rather than spherical, for example. Anyway, the underdark and the far realm are often...

Higher Damage in Monster Manual 3

You should be scaling back the XP budget. Instead of 5 n+2 level monsters, your budget should be 5 n level monsters, that is, an equal level encounter. Because the damage is increased, you shouldn't need to use the higher level encounter.

That sounds promising. Guess I'll add this one to my list.
