D&D 4E Which 4e setting do you prefer?

One guy I gamed with always described FR as the setting that every GM would come up with if you gave him enough time to develop his homebrewed world into a full setting. Not that its a bad thing, but it does end up feeling kinda like exactly what you'd expect.

    Critical Hits Article

Unlikely. Drawing up blueprints takes a few designers and architects, actually building the building takes a few hundred people. Yet your article talks about all the firings from WotC, not the rush of hirings. Its just a bunch of pointless meaningless speculation. At some point in the next...

    Critical Hits Article

If wotc were gearing up for a new edition, they'd be hiring, not firing. All the evidence this guy musters hints against a new edition, not strong evidence for it. Moreover, this is the same trollbait claim I've seen every month since I've started following DnD online in '04. WotC is firing...

D&D 4E Which 4e setting do you prefer?

POL for me. Then Eberron. I want to like dark sun more than I do, but it just didn't excite me once I got it. FR I don't even care that it doesn't excite me.

I'd find 7 people in a group to be more of a problem.

    Capping a game at 11th-level

I ran a group through high paragon and didn't find it all that bad at all, especial relative to mid-teens in 3e. That said, if I wanted to cap leveling at 10/11, here's what I would do: XP gains still matter. Every time you gain enough XP to level to 12, instead, you'd get just pseudo-level...

Has the DM fallen from grace?

    From another thread:

Has the DM fallen from grace?

The dragon would just assume that any magic items worth keeping would make their saving throw?

Has the DM fallen from grace?

The idea that a party would be tackling a dragon capable of casting any spells without even a single magic item is ludicrous. Spell casting starts at about CR 8. There's no way a 3e party would attempt a CR 8 encounter with no magical effects going.

Has the DM fallen from grace?

It's in a cone because it's basically which way you're facing. But no, on the first round you only get a yes/no to see if there's magic in the area of the spell. Round 2 tells you how many magic auras and how high a level the most powerful one is. Round 3 tells you all the stuff you actually...

Has the DM fallen from grace?

Where are you getting this? The plain language of the spell is just presence or absence in area of the detect spell.
  14. malraux

Has the DM fallen from grace?

No. The only information you get from the first round of detect magic is a yes or no. Screwing up a relatively basic rule like this pretty much undercuts the entire case you've made in this whole thread you know.

Has the DM fallen from grace?

Right, you know in the cone in front of you if there is at least one magical thing. It doesn't tell you how many, or where.

Has the DM fallen from grace?

That's not how the spell works. What is and isn't magical is the second round of information. I guess you don't know the rules as well as you thought.
  17. malraux

Has the DM fallen from grace?

No. Nowhere in the rules explicitly or implicitly is it stated that a dragon couldn't have a funny hat, a collection of erotic dragon statuettes, or rituals for fun or plot as the DM whims. Now his combat stat block will likely only include items related to combat, but that's just an...

Has the DM fallen from grace?

I suspect this would come down to what counts as "the rules" vs what is the extra stuff and that once we agreed on those definitions, we'd largely agree on substance.

Good doctors almost alway double check drug dosing especially in complicated patients. Drug interactions and research changes best practice all the time. There's a reason doctors flocked to smart devices.
