The Last Potato Salad at the Outdoor BBQ- Thoughts on Spoilers

I get that. But in those cases, they ("they" -- the complicated amalgam of creators, network folks and the arbitrary whims of advertisers, functioning as an amoral chimaera) are making choices about their own product. That, to me, seems honest. And it can be cool: the Battlestar Galactica...

The Last Potato Salad at the Outdoor BBQ- Thoughts on Spoilers

I'll end with a nitpick, because Troy falling isn't a spoiler in either of these poems. Troy doesn't fall in the Iliad (though its fall is inevitable given what the poem presents), and it's already fallen and become the subject of heroic poetry by the time of the Odyssey (Demodocus is signing...

The Last Potato Salad at the Outdoor BBQ- Thoughts on Spoilers

This is interesting. I didn't know about the National Lampoon essay. The few benchmarks that I hold in my head for spoilers (leading me to the conclusion that they are too often weaponized or, as I'll discuss, capitailized, and so should be avoided) are these (and some of them have been hit on...

D'oh! Sorry everyone. I'll keep that; the nearest miss was 5 points away; I think it's better to wait for a closer hit. Sorry.

D&D 5E (2024) Pact Of Chain Warlock is really powerful now.

TLAs are the death of effective communication.

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

The Colonel would certainly use it (he's not that useful in combat), and he's happy to summon earth elementals (not against his religion, as it were). If it's okay, he'll put it on, draping it over his collar. We;ll see how we go.
  8. Kobold Stew

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

The Colonel nods to Donnell. He speaks to the prisoners, "The priority is for you to escape. We will stay with you, but if we see the fire giant, you keep going. We will hold him back. Out the gate, across the open field, and to the woods. We'll find you." And the Colonel, shield in one hand...

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Fitz's Folly

Do we have inspiration? I don't think so. In any case, the attacks were made with advantage already.

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Fitz's Folly

I thought we had only discussed it there. My mistake. I'll revise above. If that's the case, then (if it's okay with Fitz) she can take an action surge here in round 1 and attack twice more: 1d20+4 (ADV)=17 Hit. Damage=1d8+10=20 (10 after resistances) 1d20+4 (ADV)=20 Hit. Damage =1d8+10=17 (9...

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

The Colonel does not speak Orcish, and he glares at Harmock from under dark eyebrows. "Doc is right. We've made a pact, and we need to honour it. We also need to ensure that those here are able to get away. There are no indications that the Stone Giant's workers are being tortured, and...", the...

    D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Fitz's Folly

Okay -- a quick recce. RESTS. I'm pretty sure we've not had a long rest since 2023. Let that sink in. We had a short rest in 3141 (Dec 15 2023), and a long one was mentioned but not taken here in 3231. Long rest taken in 3235. IMOGEN: Used her last Luck point for the day in 3305. She has two...
  13. Kobold Stew

(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

The temperature in the room drops as the Fire Elemental's prison is opened for it, and the Colonel takes a sense of pleasure in thinking about what Smolderheart will feel when he realizes what has happened. He is also pleased, though he admits to himself that this is of secondary importance...

    D&D 5E (2024) Species tweaks (house rules)

I see them at the weak end, and would like a bit more flavour. If I were tweaking them, I'd maybe allow them to use STR fro an intimidation check 1/short (or PB/long). Plays into stereotypes, perhaps, but I feel they need something... YMMV.

    D&D 5E (2024) Species tweaks (house rules)

These are all really fun, and none is overpowered. I agree that not all species need a little boost, but I do think some love for the orc would be appropriate. On the Gnome Tinker: the element of randomizing could be reduced a bit by letting both d8s be rolled at once, and you choose which is...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

That is not what the description of Enspelled Weapon that I posted says. The description I posted seems to me clear, assuming that's what's in the DMG.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

I can't meaningfully engage with your 8 (or even 2) if you don't share where that's from. I'm operating with limited information, and you need to please provide specifics. You are not addressing the fixed attack bonus, which will keep you lagging behind from level 4 (and, again, am operating...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thief Rogue / True Strike

Based on what we've seen (I think), an enspelled weapons will have limited charges (max. 6/long rest), and it has a fixed attack bonus. Even if it solves ambiguity of Fast hands (assuming there is any), but it's not obviously "better" or viable long term.
