    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

DEpends on the game. If you are facing the destruction of all that you love from multiple fronts then you may not have downtime. Ive played a multiyear caMpaign like that. I wouldnt run one like that but its not hard to put players in situations where time off is bad things for all the...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

Or have a game with strict timelines. Either way is a bit cheeesey but will limit items. Of course if items are easy for playerz to craft or buy they are for villains as well.

    D&D 5E (2024) Flanking no more in D&D 2024?

I think PF2E took the majority of the players that required tactical encounter each combat. DnD is probably just letting that small group that takes more resources to design for go. It seems to me that 5E has almost been defined by mot being the crunchy pathfinder or 3e game and that seems...

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

Rarer but harxer encounters is still attrition. You just have one loooong fight instead of several smaller ones.

D&D 5E (2024) Do players really want balance?

In a game where players are measured by Hitpoints gear and stuff that make them harder to hit and let them do more damage how do you get rid of attrition? That's really the elephant in the room. Made worse by long rest and short rest rules that were designed to stop the complaining from...

D&D General When and where did the idea of Ranger as "wilderness rogue" start?

Originally all the oddball himanoids were giant kin. So yeah it was a nice buff

D&D General When and where did the idea of Ranger as "wilderness rogue" start?

They were fully in warrior class it got fuzzy because in the wilderness they habe a flat 50% chance to surprise which in 1e was huuuuuge. You could get multiple full round attacks if the dice were food to you. One ranger with a perfect surprise round could take out 3 or 4 orcs easily if they...

D&D General When and where did the idea of Ranger as "wilderness rogue" start?

Druids having magic user style spells was a thing in a lot of fantasy back then. Rangers were written up in 1st ed to almost be the knights of the druidic world

D&D General Greek, Roman, or Greco-Roman Gods

Running greco roman gods either version, EGO, EGO,EGO, and anything that questions power or position will get big reactions. Also dont forget to look deeper. the primal forces of the Universe are things that even Zues is afraid of. the gods and Godesses related to Nyct (night, or darkness)...

D&D General When and where did the idea of Ranger as "wilderness rogue" start?

Ranger was a druid centric wilderness warrior/sbut sneaky in the wilderness in 1st ed. Strider roaming the realms in tolkiem and jack vance books is where it stadted

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

W E had no "expected" playstyle back then. Then like now the proper playstyle was what the table wants. The ravenloft campign setting has always suffered from being the campaign setting preferred by those that like horror movies. Watch friday the 13th any one of them then read the modules...

D&D General the elemental planes are trash

I don't think the elemental planes were ever anything but an attempt to justify where summoned creatures come from. All they really are are the sources of materials for the worlds that creator deities make. They are useful if you arent' going with science based worlds. go deep enough into the...

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

on that note I have tons of old ones that i've bought from 1st ed modules on. With far less work than making my own I can run one of those in any edition. After awhile converting things on the fly just becomes easy.

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

see I like that. I can pick and choose and modify and build out my own story arc or fill a hole in my own homebrew game when I don 't have time.

D&D General It's Session Zero! How Much Backstory Do You Give Your Character?

D&D General Why 5E Adventurs Suck!!!!!

this has been a problem for the hobby since the beginning. small adventures are great and popular but they don't bring in the revenue that boxed sets or bigger adventure paths do. However bigger boxed sets and adventure paths take the money out of the front end and GM doesn't need to spend as...

    D&D General Humans are Blind

Yes but remember old lowlight vision was infravision. So cold blooded creatures and undead didnt register. ultravision for ogres and a few monsters worked like imprived dark vision with color ut not underground. First and second edition it wasnt the massive always useful dark vision we have now.
