D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

been waiting since 1977 for someone to pull it off. Never said it was a bad idea it's just about the same amount of work as creating a whole new system. Maybe less with all the bloat of spells over the years.

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

OH I don't know I'd argue DM's tend to make the same mistakes when they design powers and spells for thier Villains. Villains doing things players can't do IME causes a lot of these arguments.

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

Of course then we have 8 different classes and all 8 different classes need utility spells, combat spells and enough flavorful spells that they can be played without the others. To do that properly wizards would have to completely make each school of magic a seperate and equally playeable in...

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

no it was freaking expensive. 20 bucks for the AD&D book 20 bucks for the GameMaster's guide. The boxed sets about the same. I think sunk costs tended to keep players in whichever group they started in. just checked an inflation calculator. 20 bucks in 1977 was the same spending power...

    D&D General Defining Story

If you are throwing obstacles at your players that make them turn around and go home I don't think there is a problem with the story. There might be a problem with the table's definition of fun vs the DM's definition of fun. I've seen a lot of DM's blow thier games up by trying to do the...

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Honestly rough rules and gygaxian contradictions aside. It was a simpler game that was far more balanced than anything released since. Assuming you left the psionics and Bards out of it. Many hate it because it had less options, many hate it because it was often run in nity gritty games with...

D&D General Why Isn't There a D&D Table Top Miniatures War Game?

Another variable in the diference between the two is ranged warfare. tabletop embraces it for the smart move it is and D&D actively attempts to push players to face to face melee distance. It's very much an Anime vs History channel vibe that doesn't really cross over well.

D&D General Why Isn't There a D&D Table Top Miniatures War Game?

The site I posted earlier only did the old monster manuals that were under OGL and some stuff from pathfinder that pathfinder said was ok for individual use but not commercial. they should all be legal for use.

D&D General Why Isn't There a D&D Table Top Miniatures War Game?

or I'd suggest this guy. 5 dollars a month on patreon gives you access to all his files. They are decent quality and he started by doing all the monsters in monster manual one and continued on from there. He constatantly puts out files and even does special requests from people in the...

D&D General Why Isn't There a D&D Table Top Miniatures War Game?

Most of the miniature tabletop gaming market is Warhammer and historical games. I know several versions have been launched over the years but minatures are an expensive add on to a DM's arsenal if you want to do large scale battles. I've done a few over the years and I have several friends and...

I think the idea was always that the evil dragons felt mortals were so far beneath them that taking thier form was disgusting and a sign of weakness.

D&D 5E (2014) Dragons that can polymorph into humanoids...

it's a throwback to the oriental dragons. The metallic dragons were loosley designed on oriental dragons serving the heavens and the chromatic dragons are loosely designed on being the children of Tiamat the destroyer. I've always wished they'd done a bit more to make them more similar...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragons that can polymorph into humanoids...

i prefer a set form as the humanoid form. I would give a PC a set form if I let them have an inborn shapeshifting ability letting the dragon have more than that seems excessive.
