    Rolling 18/100 Strength

One of my players was rolling a replacement character after his first expired. They were 78th level, I believe. He was making a dwarf fighter, and we as a group are rather anti-huge scores, making them the exceptional rarity and therefore more special. He rolled an 18, which he put in str...

    'Origin' of Your User Name

Was my first email address. It is Finnish for "Winter War," the Soviet invasion of 1939-40. I focused on the diplomatic developments that led up to this war in my thesis.

    Languages

I think languages add a lot to campaign flavor, and I have detailed them to enough of a degree to make them unique and interesting in my campaigns. e.g. Manyar, the people who inhabited the region before the migration - based on Hungarian, as it is non-european and cool sounding. Used...

What are your all time favorite rpg games, and why?

As much as I really like GURPS, I have been unsuccessful at making my GURPS campaigns as entertaining as D&D. Just can't put my finger on it, but D&D has an unbeatable nostalgic and well-fed base that gets you into the game better than other systems can. So, GURPS for the system, D&D for the...

(Meta) The Pacific Rim / Indian Rim / Oceania Poll is a NEW poll - NOBODY HAS VOTED!

Poll noted. Also noted is the fact that I am not in that area. Hence, I did not open the thread.

ToEE, Scourge of the Slavelords, Queen of Spiders

I've done this in the past, but it is tough to go from the temple to the slavers' series, as the PCs will be too high level for it. My party finished at about 7-8th level, where it is best to start the A series at 4th or so. They had a few homegrown adventures then started the GDQ books. I...

    Buy Dangerous Journeys?

I thought it a horribly edited attempt at a game. The system left a bad taste in my mouth. However, I graduated IWU, am originally from Taylorville, and am marvelling at the serindipity of our locations.

Looking for advice on Thrid party modules.

I am DMing Tomb of Abythsor by Necromancer Games for our group here. Dungeon crawl, yes, but with more to it in the ways of subplots and such. I like it a lot, and my players do, too. 9 levels of dungeon fun (although I have re-drawn the maps) for PCs from 3rd to probably 9th or 10th. I...

[OT] Please categorize yourselves by region

Lurks-No-More: Someone actually caught my user name. Of course, it had to be someone from good ol' Suomi. While I am not a Finn, I am a Finnophile, as the majority of my research in university was Russian-Finnish relations. Indeed, anyone who studies this topic gets a great feel for the...

[OT] What is the best selling beer in your country?

Well, amongst Kazakhstani beer, I'd have to say Tyan Shan. It is a JSC with Heineken and brewed here. I'd say it was my fave here, too. As for imports, I really like Belgian White beer, like Hoegaarten (sp?) A few restaurants carry it in Almaty. However, I had never seen it in the states.

This is getting of topic and I apologize. Moderators, I apologize ahead of time for this, but I must reply to green slime. Serbian is not close to Russian. Yes, it is a slavic language, but they are not mutually complrehensible. Yugoslavia was not interested in becomming a soviet satellite...

As someone who has studied the USSR and it's aftermath all of his life, speaks Russian fluently, and now lives in the former USSR, I could not help but add my 2cp. Medieval Cities and Libraries

I'd like to emphasize the Name of the Rose (Umberto Eco) as a great source book, and just great book in general. I also seem to recall learning somewhere that Chaucer had 73 books at the time of his death and it was one of the largest private libraries known. If I am not mistaken, he lived...
