What can you do with Diplomacy?

One complaint that I have about the Diplomacy skill is that DMs seem to have expect very high results of the Diplomacy check to do anything - and that they feel the DC in the DMG are to low - thereby minimizing the effectiveness of the skill. While I realize this is a DM specific issue - I have...

Response to Russ' Front Page Letter.

There comes a time when replies get redundent - but it is also important to let you know that this site is important to a lot of people. I have to say that over the past 3+ years, this is the only site that I have consistently stayed with. And like others - your message definately had that...

    Maya, Aztec, Toltec, Inca

Do you have the Maztca stuff? I believe that it is available free from the WotC site. Second, I think that Avalanche Press did a Central American source book - or at least that is what my addled brain remembers.

How do you work sex into your campaign?

While I certainly agree with you on the first point - and mabye it is because I am getting older...... But regarding the second - a lot of the armour that I saw from the 1200 - 1400 seems to promintely feature endowed cod-pieces - espcially the ceremonial stuff - hence the link between martial...

How do you work sex into your campaign?

I think that they are goofy from our stand-point - but I seem to remember some rather *ahem* endowed cod-pieces that Henry the IIX had - they are displayed in the Tower of London. I think that in some ways they are reminicient of the African Fertility statues (Which also look goofy to me) - but...

    Tell me about New Mexico

I suspect that Durango will be your best bet for gaming - There is a two-year college called Ft. Lewis that might attract games - I know that some of the people I played with in High School ended up there. As far as gaming stores - Albuquerque, Sante Fe or the internet are going to be your best...

What is the role of a courtesan in a late medieval setting?

MP = Member of Parliment As far as Pamela Bordes - IIRC she was a former Ms India who was a researcher in the House of Commons during the 80's. She then borkered this position and her beauty/charm into a very courtesan type role - and nearly broke the (Tory) government in the process. edit -...

BotR Holy Warriors vs. Dragon's alt. Paladins

Much prefer the BoTR Holy Warriors - they make sense given the greater context of thier respective churches and that what makes them work. The problem with the Alt-Paladins (and the paladin for that matter) is that they are taken out of context of thier faith structure - and as such make less...

    Best Rogue Special Ability

Improved Evasion Slippery Mind Skill Mastery in that order. Taking no damage is huge - especially when you are limited on hit points. Slippery mind addresses one of the rogues weaknesses - low will saves. Skill master - taking 10 on any skill - also quite nice

    [OT] Gerbil removal techniques

There was a rumor that Mr Gere used gerbils for some unusual activities - see below. Take: one plastic tube one gerbile (declawed) some cocaine For actual use - please see Wichts post

What d20 game hasn't been done [or done right] yet?

Something that I have not seen yet is Cyberpunk/Shadowrun. Granted you could use Urban Arcana to emulate the magic - nothing has really come out for the Cybernetics/decking - an no Digital Burn does not count. Another vote for Mythic Greece - the ultimate Hero vs. mook setting!!! Another is a...

    Favorite non-WotC publishers

Looking over at my Gaming Shelf.... In order of preference FFG - Thier Legends and Lairs series has been very enjoyable and non-campaign specific. Green Ronin - Book of the Rightoutous and their Legions/Armies has formed the cosmology of my homebrew. Expeditious Retreat Press - thier one...

Survey - EN World Player's Journal?

    1) I DM one campaign and play in another 2) I bought both issues from my FLGS (Attactix - in Aurora, CO). The articles that I like the most were the Adventurer's Guide to surviving anything, Ambience effects and the alchemey rules. They appealed to me more as a DM. In fact I would say that...

    Local Games Stores Are Dead!

[/B] Actually, I have found most people go into black box mode - if they accept that something happens behind the scenes - and as long as the results are within some sort of bounds, they will adapt to any technology - afterall if 60 year old bank tellers in Bangor Maine can use accept the...

    Local Games Stores Are Dead!

ACtually, I have found very few luddites out there - in fact workers of any age are quick to adopt any technology if: 1) It makes their job easier 2) They are incented to do so. The real reason that you have not seen the "paperless office" (a fallacy anymore - see my above post) is that it is...

I found a near mint copy of D&Dg with Cthulhu and Elric for 18 bucks!

Dumb question - how do you tell what printing the book is? For most books it is listed on the first page - for the D&D that I have, I can not find it anywhere...

    Local Games Stores Are Dead!

A couple of years ago, I used to work for a company that designed and installed Document Imanging and Workflow systems (I have since moved into Call Center and Logistics systems) But, one of the interesting trends about this industry is that you no longer see it market the paperless office (in...

Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe Building Question

I actually have a couple of questions on this as well. I would assume that a Wall of Stone spell would be great for most of the structure of the building - but the detail work is where the cost would be - hence a stoneshape spell would be more appropriate - correct? Further, in modern...

[OT] What is Minneapolis/St. Paul like?

Die-Kluge - my sympathies on Sprint. I work for the company that does all of Sprint's Billing - and found them to be an exceptionally schizophentic company (more so than ususal) - but I think alot of it has to do with being a Telco. As far a MStP - As mentioned it is the IT prospects are OK...
