Coup de Grace vs. Players -- Mean DM or Fair Play?

Depends on how the PC is unconscious I guess, also it depends on how unique the PCs are with there regenerative and healing capabilities. In 3e, I rarely CDG, downed people did not pop up on there own and the range of almost dead and dead was 10hp and chances are you were not 1 hp into it...

So THAT's why Regdar gets no love...

I consider things like the Iconics and the cover to be almost 100% a marketing decision. I really don't think the "creative team" should be involved in it at all.

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

Wow, this thread feels really ugly now.

    Rolling Abilities

I don't think rolling is that much more unbalanced than point buy. Neither is really balanced in the end result, they both have a balance of opportunity. Some people roll better, some people min/max better. Overall point buy is I guess a more balanced starting point, but I'm not convinced it...

Racial Feats - the Good and the Bad

I guess it would come into play more often, but again I'm not seeing the awesome. Lets say you are really lucky and 10 mobs are in your area of effect. With this feat when spending an action point you hit 7 of them(roudning up) without the feat you hit 5 of them on average. Fairly cool, but...

    Why do Orcs get Intimidate?

Yeah I kind of agree with this. So I trean PCs, like I'll treat detailed NPCs. How I usually run social skills for both the players and the NPCs is I assume using intimidate as an example if you successfully intimidate in combat the person/creature is convinced they will die if they continue...

Racial Feats - the Good and the Bad

They should also be about power. I don't think they have to be better than standard feats, but they should at least equal them. If they are not balanced you have the system mastery issues of 3e coming into the racial feats.

Racial Feats - the Good and the Bad

I have not found it that awesome in play. Its decent, just not awesome. +3 to hit is a solid benefit, a very limited use limit by having to use an AP turns a solid benefit into just ok for us. Really it comes down to when used 15% of the time this feat allows you to hit, 85% of the time it...

Racial Feats - the Good and the Bad

I am not as impressed with human feats as others are. AP come once to twice a day, so you get to use this once to twice a day. Yeah +3 to hit is good, but once a day+3 to hit for a feat is just ok in my opinion. I will give you its still ok at epic levels, but I don't think it is great. I...

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

I think your method is doomed to failure actually. I don't disagree with looking at everything when balancing things, I just think you have to balance the individual parts as well in order for that to work. If something is balanced only because of a delicate web of abilities its much harder...

    Why do Orcs get Intimidate?

So did you answer the question? Oh wait, no you didn't. I really hate infinite oregano its always trotted out as if that was some how clever. People come up with legitimate rules problems and instead of discussing it, they get snarky if your DM was competent responses via oregano.

    Why do Orcs get Intimidate?

I'd like to think it would change as you level. I think the problem you are bumping into is everything has a base defense of at least 10.

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

I disagree. Sure for balancing things overall you have to look at all the things that go together. So in order to check that a combination of powers isn't too good, sure look at how everything works together. But if a striker is supposed to be the best at single target damage, that is...

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

I could accept class features as a balancing factor if they were built into the base class. So I do not mind adding in things like a mark. I generally think things should be balanced separately, I just could accept the argument that you can balance things looking at the whole class if you were...

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

Just as a point it does not say whenever a power deals damage. For it to be clear that your position was correct it would need to say something like, every time that use of a power causes damage the target takes damage equal to the damage you suffered. It says when the power you use damages...

    Die Rolls or Point-Buy

I use both and give the player the option. From 3e style point buy it was 28 points or roll 4d6 drop lowest. Statistically it works out to be about the same, though virtually everyone rolls. For 4e I just started with just roll since that is what most of my people prefer and I am too lazy...

Players really want the Necromancer? (Forked: Non-published concepts you want)

    1. I am not sure I'd call this a debate. 2. He basically said, I'm nit-picking but the general idea you said is supported by either your initial statement or my correction. So if you want to see why his argument is valid go see the initial post, which explains that once you have demons...

Are ELADRIN attribute bonuses the MOST USELESS?

Feats are why any stat modifier is a big thing. 13 dex and 15 dex are nice points to hit to open up some good feats. By spending 2 points in dex on a point buy a eladrin wizard will have a 15 dex at level 11. Arcane reach is all kinds of awesome at requires that 15 dex. a race without a...

Why is Firestorm the best 19th level control spell?

In some ways I think the epic destiny is a problem, since apparently its the patch to fix the wizard so it can actually perform its role of doing AoE damage better than a leader can. I love spakle but you know sometimes its just better to fix the problem and not just patch it up.
