D&D 5E (2014) How many spells does a wizard *need*

I don't think 5e is balanced in the sense of strict mechanical balance so when a class looses a feature it suddenly is weaker than the rest. Like losing adding spells to your spell book, which is a wizards big spell casting style perk IMO. Its his thing as much as a sorcerers metamagic is...

D&D 5E (2014) How many spells does a wizard *need*

Need as in function? 4 a spell level is fine. Need as in a bard would have almost as many 6 should be fine. Personally I wouldn't give them more. Are you describing the setting in advance like it seems? Then it's his choice to play a wizard and honestly it sounds like fun. Would X be more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dealing with a Daemon Weapon?

Make sure you are a really funny guy so he will promise to kill you last.

    D&D 5E (2014) Questions on stealth...

You've never lost track of someone in a crowd? Narratively you are in a fight so it's not like you are just looking right at the elf. One moment he's there the next moment you lost track of him as your eyes drifted to another enemy, some motion you picked up out of the corner of your eyes etc...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is "Frost Brand" rarer than "Flame Tongue"?

To this day the 2e spell research and item creation rules are my favorite. Roughly as vague as 5e but I loved the details they had on research and library costs and size just to get the ball rolling with the 5e vague guidelines tacked onto it. If I were to make rules for this I'd basically lift...

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkvision and whiteouts

I get that. I had a PC with a 25 passive perception it basically made it impossible to sneak up on him, have hidden X or whatever. When someone is that perceptive it's weird for a lot of story points. I mostly just embraced it as a method for that guy to shine. Still there is nothing wrong in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger Hide in Plain Sight...useful?

It's not useless but it does need planning and it certainly helps when you have a GM who will design stories with a eye to your abilities. All classes have abilities that benefit from this but the ranger seems to have a bit more. Now +X abilities on average even when limited are fairly valuable...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

I'm not huge into this mundane vs magic debate but I will say on the forums though not in the games I run or play in people do seem to let magic do a lot and restrict mundane activities even beyond what people can actually do much less when heroic dragon slaying epic bad asses should be able to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tavern Brawler + Rope/Hook... reach grapple?

If I were the GM sure. Sounds awesome. But this is a very DM dependent feat. What and how improvised weapons work will be different table to table.

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

I suspect surprise would wear off quicker than the invading force could organize after a teleport. I mean chances are they are on guard only for that purpose, so its not like they will be shocked for minutes. But if you were that worried about it a glyph of warding or 4 would react for you...

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

Let's say I accepted all your assertions on how many people you can get through a circle in 6 seconds. Wouldn't that just make them more likely to be epic slaughtered in seconds. If while hustling you can fit 4 people to a 5'square how many can fit when jam packed into nearest unoccupied space...

D&D 5E (2014) Will we see more 5e campaigns from WOTC like Curse Of Strahd? (eg focus on investigation vs combat)

I really hope it becomes more common. Ideally there is a decent balance between the two with either road in many encounters a potential viable option for the pcs. I don't want to deny people the joy of a murder hobo if that's their jam.

    D&D 5E (2014) Class guides?

I don't disagree with that. Cool is very subjective. I am trying to put together a guide though that still looks at it through a lens of at least my cool. The way I look at it unless you build to fail you will do fine so why focus on the optimal damage/defensive build. If that's your fun/cool...

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

How are people envisioning this spell? A circle that anyone who enters they get transported from? I ask because I see it as a circle within which is a 10 foot wide vertical portal you can walk into to be transported. Why, well because the spell says it creates a 10' wide portal. Now yes the...

D&D 5E (2014) What are some good magical items for a level 1 character?

I dig some of the trinkets it the strahd supplement. A wine skin that refills if interred with a corpse. Um best item ever for your necromancer or cleric of the dead or heck just a dwarf.

    D&D 5E (2014) Drizzt as a LG 8th Level Champion

Good point. Then level 8 seems a bit low though keeping in tradition for the realms. Greatest swordsman of all time level 10 should reflect that. Unknown wizard level 15.

    D&D 5E (2014) Drizzt as a LG 8th Level Champion

Should probably have the stealth skill trained but otherwise seems fine depending on what point in his career this is. Also I'd say battle master over champion. The books focus a lot of sword styles and tricks like disarming.

D&D 5E (2014) Standard security features of a permanent Teleportation Circle

You and I have vastly different opinions on how many people can get through a 10' portal in 6 seconds.

    D&D 5E (2014) Blade Ward cantrip

Yeah mold earth is the portable cover spell that works in most outdoor encounters. It's good enough it might be worth a action in a fight and not just as prep before one.
