Ryan Dancey - D&D in a Death Spiral

"What does this tell us about scarcity for PHB2? It tells us that 4E in general is selling poorly." This is interesting. I have 3 each of BN & Borders in my area. All carried 3.x for the entire history of those versions. All carried the release of 4.0. NONE of them restocked 4.0 and don't...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

You just give sealed item to retailer that has the code. When a person purchases the item he is given the code at the counter...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

That's the only logical business reason to kill a revenue source that has no costs associated with it. They (legacy product line PDFs) are more popular than the current line.

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

Correct. Right now pre-4.0 editions sold on PDF are a profit center for WotC with no costs associated. Now, companies don't eliminate profit centers unless they see it as a threat to new/existing products. That would ONLY be the case if 4.0 wasn't moving as well as it should be... Which I...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

Yep, my analysis was 100% correct. You will now see pirating of previous edition PDFs skyrocket.

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

No, ceasing to sell 1st & 2nd Ed PDFs does nothing to stop pirating of 4E material. The only logical reason is that they don't want people playing older editions (spending $ on them) as they see it as eroding 4E sales. It costs them nothing to have people sell older PDFs and makes them $. The...

Will WOTC's Ending PDF Sales Because of Pirating Increase Pirating of their Stuff?

I agree. Step 4 was what I proposed for WotCs thought process. It is the only thing that makes ANY sense. I too think that the thought process is wrong.

Will WOTC's Ending PDF Sales Because of Pirating Increase Pirating of their Stuff?

It probably will but who knows. I was thinking about the reasoning given. A company makes decisions based on some type of fiscal pressure. WotC is stopping the sale of older editions. Why? 1) It costs them nothing to have people sell them and there is only profit. 2) Stopping the sale of...

Neither. Read your question again regarding feedback from scientists using a system. I gave you one.

I checked with my dad who worked on the designs for the Apollo missions. He said the astronauts & NASA Ops used the English system. You should check to see what system other countries used when landing men on the moon. ;)

What are you teaching your kids? BD&D or what?

I taught my kids D&D 2nd Ed when they were young & then we went to 3.0 when it came out. If I was doing it today it would be C&C.

How to get younger players into PnP RPG's

How to get younger players into RPG's Personally, I never had a problem getting younger people to play & like D&D. None had played RPGs at that point and the computer games were in a different category for them. Apples & oranges.

Bingo! My point made. You require of your players beforehand. That's a limitation. I won't argue the point further as you have made it for me.

That was a great time to start, wasn't it? I only started a couple years earlier. We experienced the birthing of AD&D, Traveller, Rune Quest, T&T, Arduin, etc. A lot has transpired in the RPG arena. We can count our selves as lucky to have gamed throughout it. Peace, and may your games...

Sorry, but time is a limitation & a barrier. As in, waiting for you to work out an area if they want to go there. Sorry, your argument is false by the very definition of the word limitation. But, like I said, it is a matter of preference and nothing wrong with your chosen style.
