Forked Thread: Magic assumptions in the campaign

Right. How many of those stores sell cash only, no credit cards/AmEx? And, how wide a selection to they carry at all times? As you noted, these stores are in areas with hundreds of thousands or millions of people. Also, it doesn't take "life force" (XP) to manufacture those items. So factor...

Forked Thread: Magic assumptions in the campaign

Well the 3E rules call for a "middle class" person to earn about ~$30k/year (1 s.p./day). Considering the value of gold . They did an accurate job. Based on that comparison, a +1 Long sword would cost about $115,000. Now, there are no banks to loan the cash to people to purchase these. So...

Do you build NPCs to live or to die?

Well, I make them to fit into their logical place in the campaign world. They are built to fulfill that purpose/position. There is no predetermined "live or die" thought that carries over to how I design them.

How does pulling old edition pdfs benefit WotC?

Do you know how static E-SKUs are handled when there is no end user interaction or channel partner interaction?

How does pulling old edition pdfs benefit WotC?

We don't know the gross sale numbers. I do know the cost number to keep them SKU'ed. Zero.

How does pulling old edition pdfs benefit WotC?

Ummm, it's a very funny reason. But it isn't a realistic one, (probably why they didn't advance it). Any competent business person would have have laughed him off the "stage". Have you ever run a company with a large E channel sales division?

How does pulling old edition pdfs benefit WotC?

Which contradicts the WotC Pres. Why go after piracy of something you don't want to sell & make $ on? Why get rid of a profit center in the process? The only reason is that he thinks they will sell more current product if they make old product unavailable.

Grognards: Was the Dex Check a Common House Rule Before 1e?

By 82 it was a pretty universally used mechanic. Katherine just echoed what was. There was no need for advocacy by that time. I think we used both % & roll under in OD&D.

Arcane Power: How long before the pirated copy appears

For the old editions that WotC doesn't itself sell, yes I have been there. There is basically no cost other than logging quarterly payments from the reseller. That's why WotC didn't give that as an excuse...

How does pulling old edition pdfs benefit WotC?

Exactly. Why assume a reason that WotC would have stated and they didn't? Totally illogical. We have eliminated the possibilities and are left with killing the competition of old versions...

    Mithral Armor - Proficiency

I haven't a clue what you are trying to say here. I'm speaking (as I said) of Core book rules. Not crap books.

Arcane Power: How long before the pirated copy appears

No. I had PMs from people with only a few posts trying to get the file location. Upset is an appropriate term.

All Three 3.5 D&D Books in the Amazon Top 25!

I was pointing out that WotC isn't doing as well as they'd like getting players to switch. Which is also the only reason to pull older ed PDFs... Next time don't accuse me of something I didn't do. Got it?
