D&D 5E (2014) Does Dispel Magic work on Banishment?

https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/banishment Paragraph 2 starts with "If the target is native to this plane" Paragraph 3 starts with "If the target is native to a different plane" It seems pretty clear it is meant as IF this then this, If that then that. Interestingly it mentions nothing if...

D&D 5E (2014) Does Dispel Magic work on Banishment?

Thank you, I see rule 0 brought up so many times. Rule 0 means the DM is free to adjust the rules to fit the game in session. It doesn't mean the DM shouldn't bother to even attempt to get a handle on the rules. Players spend a lot of time building their characters around both RP concepts and...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you use passive insight?

Real talk here : Most don't. It's a valid target for deception checks. (similar to how Passive perception is the DC for Stealth checks). However it should be noted the DC could be adjusted based on the fact the players don't know the target very well, or the story matches up with what has...

D&D 5E (2014) Does Dispel Magic work on Banishment?

Instantaneous effects are typically immune to dispel. You can't dispel the damage dealt from a fireball, or healed through cure wounds. Or teleport someone back away who just landed here with teleport or planar travel (unless the effect is ongoing) Edit: RAW if the spell is instantaneous, it...

D&D 5E (2014) Does Dispel Magic work on Banishment?

Also for the same reason, if you banished something that had dispel magic prepared, it could end it on itself. Since it isn't incapacitated on its home plane, it could attempt to dispel itself each round.

D&D 5E (2014) Does Dispel Magic work on Banishment?

I would rule it is effectively immune to dispel. If you happened to be able to get to where the demon is on another plane, you could dispel it, but since the creature is more than 120ft away, dispel doesn't help. Reason: Banish targeted the creature, not the area. If you had say, cast a spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Claws, Bites, Unarmed Strikes, & Breath Weapons

    1. Not a question here sooo. 2. Unless the class or racial feature specifies anatomy you lose while wild shaped you can do it. If the breath weapon said "You summon forth an energy cone from your Draconic Gizzard" then it wouldn't work, since its ambiguous, it works. 3. Yes, you can unarmed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Any Decent 3pp Psionic Rules?

http://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/UAMystic3.pdf Agree with above. Try out the stuff that's in testing.Honestly my only complaint is it is a LOT to read for one class (since it basically is method of performing the functions of every other class). And still needs some general editing...

D&D 5E (2014) Best Adventures for AL style game nights for new players and DMs

There is a google doc cheatsheet for AL modules, it has suggested level, min/max xp, magic items and gold and runtimes for every AL adventure. Keep in mind the runtimes can be short or long depending. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1omoTExpdh7cdiq9NnfVpf6-CnAkGRbA-FMIiNaZXpvg/edit#gid=0

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

Surely if the DM wont let us relive the classics we need a new dm.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Explores Downtime Activities

He doesn't really know that much about the original ideas of Azuth, his cult has him indoctrinated fairly well so that any discrepancies he views as "Lost true knowledge our members have rediscovered" He would definitely be using the charisma Persuade version as opposed to intelligence Religion...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

In defense of some of these: Doors. Sometimes you are coming up with creative ways to open doors from a distance, a round doorknob is common today, but not as much so in the past, a with a twisting bar is much easier to rig up with a rope to open from 50 ft away, similarly, if the hinges are on...

I am just happy my Warlock/Paladin cult member can start evangelizing the good word of Azuth (actually c'thullu) AND gain favors while doing it.

D&D 5E (2014) Best Adventures for AL style game nights for new players and DMs

It sounds like you are literally describing the AL modules. All of the Season 5 modules for AL are either 2 or 4 hours and are all roughly related to each other. If you have a 3 hour hard limit you will have to rush the 4 hour modules, but that isn't particularly difficult. Each module is self...

I read that sorcerer and warlock multiclass really well together.

Warlock 2/Sorcerer X grants you a very powerful cantrip, dealing d10+Mod per tier. Furthermore it grants your spellslots per short rest, which using sorcerer shenanigans you can convert into Sorcery Points then into sorcerer slots if you wish. If you go up to Warlock 3, then you get 2 level 2...

Are Teleportation and Dimensional travel the same?

Expect table variation, but Most Teleportation spells are conjuration, Dimension Door, Misty Step, Teleport. I personally would rule teleportation is using magic to travel from one point to another within the same plane, while travelling to another plane would be planar travel. If you read the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master Feat

Because 3.5e and 4e had a comparison image of all weapons. Both represented "Spear" and "Shortspear" respectively almost identically in length with a quarterstaff. 5e declined to offer the same table, The quiver of Ehlogna can hold 6 long objects, such as Bows, Quarterstaffs or spears. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master Feat

I think the more fun question is why a staff (a roughly 5-6 feet stick) is on the list while a spear (a 5-6 feet stick with point) is ommitted from the list.

D&D 5E (2014) Question: Does Hexblade's Locks use CHA while using shield mastery's shove?

So your saying I need to be a Hexblade Moon Druid, since they have natural weapon attacks which are NOT unarmed strikes and you retain your INT/WIS/CHA while wildshaped..
