    D&D 5E (2014) How powerful is charm in 5e?

Yeah, I basically rule it that you can't give target an obviously self harmful suggestion. "Go home to your family, they miss you." is fine. "Use your dagger to perform open heart surgery on yourself, you have a blocked artery!" is not so fine.

    D&D 5E (2014) Boons and Setbacks in 5e

Although it could be fun, I feel like it adds a good bit of potential slowdown when 5e has taken many measures to ensure quick play. Also I think it would occasionally put npcs and characters in positions where they ended up just dodging because they didn't have a good chance to hit, so didn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) How powerful is charm in 5e?

Charm and the charmed condition are pretty weak in 5e. Charm in particular makes you a friendly acquaintance, something short of a friend, but at least recognizable to the subject. So would almost certainly let you skip by some kind of ID check. If cast on an important person they could smooze...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hate ASI's ?

I kinda disagree. As a player I like that there is a limit on stat progression so I can go after the "fun" or interesting feats instead. I do not think 5e provides the depth of feats to truly allow you to ignore ASI and still have meaningful advancement at every ASI/feat improvement.

D&D 5E (2014) No Monsters Immune to Stun?

Most concepts in DnD are applicable to a fairly broad range of effects. A miss might be a literally miss, or it might be a hit that was ineffective vs the armor. Stunned is when a creature has been damaged so suddenly or violently that it is unable to respond for a moment, there also might be...

D&D 5E (2014) CoS: light on magic treasure? (spoilers)

Right. Going by the book there's nothing over I think 50 gp value readily available for purchase. I would think the players could negotiate with the Vistani to make a trip for them, but that's going to be a harsh markup. Sent from my A1P using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E (2014) CoS: light on magic treasure? (spoilers)

The magic items of Barovia are hoarded by Strahd. There are like a dozen magic items in his castle. The rarity of them is part of the challenge. The werewolves for example are trivial with magic items but unstoppable without silver weapons. Sent from my A1P using EN World mobile app

    Dedicated DM questions

OK thanks, I was kinda worried about the headache of seeing which item I rewarded by which milestone. Sent from my A1P using EN World mobile app

    Dedicated DM questions

A few questions about dedicated DM. Do you need to claim it immediately? That is do I need to pick an item or character to bestow it on as soon as I hit the magic number, or can I just keep DMing and have several of these rewards "In the bank" for when I do finally get to play again. Second...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Oathbreakers do Necrotic damage rather than Radiant?

It is important to remember that in 5e damage types are not inherently tied to alignments. Radiant damage is basically damage created from some kind of supernatural source (oaths and divine intervention are the most common) necrotic damage is damage that withers and destroys life. Keep in mind a...

D&D 5E (2014) The Imp Familiar for Worlock Pact of the Chain

    1. Yes. However, if you read the find familiar spell you can dismiss and resummon your familiar into a demi-plane as an action. You only need to recast the spell if it dies or you want a different one. 2. Correct. So to cast find familiar as a ritual is 70 minutes. 3. Correct. The warlock...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best 1 shot adventure (low level)

Keep in mind that both group of DnD noobs I ran Deathhouse for it was 2 8-hours sessions. They have a fair bit of terrain before they get to the house itself, and the house is drenched in things to explore.

D&D 5E (2014) As a Player, How Would You Beat This?

Honestly I don't think 10,000 g would be able to purchase a sphere on annihilation, the DMG suggests a starting price for legendary items at 50,000 +.Maybe if you found a seller who was willing to put it on payment plans and was taking 5k a week. But that seems an unlikely scenario. First, you...

D&D 5E (2014) Making Intelligence less of a dump stat

Honestly allowing downtime training doesn't do much for most campaigns. If my elf didn't bother to train in his previous 200 years, he probably isn't getting to in the middle of the campaign of utter doom. The effects need to be apparent, immediate, and useful. Each +1 grants a skill, tool or...

D&D 5E (2014) A character class with exceptional action economy?

Polearm master will grant you a giant boost to utilizing your action economy. Every turn you can take a bonus action attack (only deals 1d4 damage, but still applies STR, Rage, or Great Weapon damage). And now you can use your reaction to attack creatures entering OR leaving your range.

D&D 5E (2014) Making a bard less reliant on magic?

I understand, a lore bard is pretty much just a better Sorcerer. Especially since one of the big weaknesses of sorcerer is the limited selection of total known spells by max level, well if you bard it up, you get 8 more known spells, ANY spells. And on top of that you have your bardic...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E classes that discourage "dipping"

Most characters will be more powerful at 20 by being 100% single class. That said, there are a lot of levels before level 20, and multiclassing can make those go by much easier, and lets be honest, what percentage of characters that start at level 1 make it to level 20? Lets look at a pretty...
