    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

Generally: Casters deal with hordes, melee deal with single targets. Rangers CAN branch out and pickup decent AoE damage. But it isn't really a class defining thing. Rangers : Survival experts. Can survive in wilderness, track down bad guys.

D&D 5E (2014) Sentinel feat vs Spiritual Weapon question

RAW: Totally applies. A melee spell attack is an attack.

D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything: The Oath of Redemption Paladin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGTgdE0MYpw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGTgdE0MYpw Interesting background info, evolved from pacifist monk, debated between monk/cleric/paladin. Absorb damage for allies. Heal up to half health automatically. Capstone Sanctuaryesque permanently.

D&D 5E (2014) DM advice: Necromancers, Undead, and Attunement

The skeleton isn't a slave to the necromancers will, he is just controlled for 24 hours. The necromancer just KEEPS casting the spell. If you had the spell slots you could keep dominating a human. RAW: Skeleton is a creature, if you want to give it magic items, knock yourself out. If it has any...

D&D 5E (2014) Revision for the Blur spell

Blur can be countered by darkness/fog cloud/heavy smoke. If the problem is people rolled stats and started with 18 dex and 18 Int, and they grabbed Bladesinger (because who wouldn't?) then the problem is bladesinger,or rolling for stats, but probably not blur.

Exempting Races from the +1 rule

I don't really take their copy and paste boilerplate message for much. It says the same on the back of Storm Kings Thunder. So according to this line of logic you shouldn't use any info from Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide in Storm Kings thunder. Two books which go together ALMOST as much as the...

D&D 5E (2014) What happens if an aasimars god dies?

What happens if your grandfather dies? Probably you get sad a little, if you had a good relationship. Aasimar are semi-divine beings because that's what they are. They aren't manifestations or avatars, they are individual beings with free will.

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Stat bonus Wisdom..

I have seen this complaint before. Other than the Firbolg, Variant human (Observant, Resilient, and soon the XGTE Feats), , The fact is with the standard point buy, +1 is basically the same as +2. That is to say, you can start with a +3 wis bonus. For a monk that means a Wood Elf or Kenku can...

Exempting Races from the +1 rule

I have an weekly adventure league campaign and at Dragoncon every year. (don't go to many cons). But I really don't know if it has much bearing on "Should this rule be considered for revision?" If an argument has merit, it has merit regardless of the person. Even if this rule is handed...

Exempting Races from the +1 rule

AL changes or adds rules every single season. I don't believe this is a strong reason to prevent players from customizing characters. As is, Xanathar is going to make a lot of new Vumans. Which is fine, but its more fun to run into some oddball races. Just my 2 cp though.

    D&D 5E (2014) alternatives to Nature domain?

Nature Cleric vs Circle of Land Druid: I am comparing the features gained at the levels against one another. I am merely doing a direct comparison, for your balancing sake you may want to assign a point value, such that having 1 skill might be +1 for cleric, but having such a wider array of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Questions about 5e desert travel

Chapter 5 of DMG has rules for extreme heat, quicksand, sandstorms, and becoming lost in the desert. Remember in particular that hot environments require 2 gallons of water a day, this will be difficult/impossible to find if they don't have a magical means of creation. Here are some...

    D&D 5E (2014) Roshambo-Style Theatre of the Mind Combat

One thing that is a bit lacking is the fact you can't really methodically move through the battlefield. Since you have to dash to go far away, it means you have to give up an action at some point. While an actual battlefield your cleric might continue to cast spells and just take 2-3 turns to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Hexblade Subclass

The fluff is dumb. BUT I will just refluff it as being empowered to be a knight for my patron, and getting a different set of gifts as appropriate to my position.

    AD&D 2E Is 5e Basically Becoming Pathfinder 2e?

Honestly I am more bothered by the Player options be interspersed in bits and pieces across books. The player races from Volos should have been included in XGTE to make it a more solid PHB2. It is less than 10% of Volos but for many players, the only important part. To me it felt more like WotC...

Exempting Races from the +1 rule

I actually was talking to another DM and I came to the same conclusion. If the reason for the +1 limitation is to prevent complexity of requiring multiple books, the races can probably be exempt. As they typically just a short paragraph for mechanical effects. I honestly got the impression...

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

Current Beastmaster Pros: Options! So many cool options allowing different flavors of pets. Act on player's turn, faster and allows strategies Cons: HP per level is abysmal, very vulnerable to aoe, Action economy is wonky you use your action to command beast. Levels 3-5 you ranger is...

D&D 5E (2014) Questions concerning the suggestion spell

I try not to hide things from players, in this case the bard would know instantly (as it requires concentration) and that info should be relayed to other players. As far as the giant not showing signs until his turn. You have to remember that turns are abstractions, while it is not your turn...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you like Subsubclasses?

Right, I like the idea of getting 1 aspect of your class at level 1, then getting another important choice later. The patron/pact combo makes for interesting warlock combos (even if most patrons don't make a big difference).

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

I really feel like this is saying "You aren't going to have two large pizzas! You are going to have a large pizza, you can just choose thin crust or hand tossed!" It might make some difference to him in his heart. But it doesn't change the fact there will be Rangers running around with two...
