    Creation & leveling mistakes

If you didn't spend the ability score increase legally, you should reallocate it to be legal. I would say replace any resilient feat (AFTER THE FIRST) with legal feat or ability score improvements. However, that doesn't mean you get to reset your ability scores you assigned at level 1. Your...

D&D 5E (2014) On Saving Throws (a Monster Manual Analysis)

The idea the Dex is king is in comparison to STR for which to use as a melee character primary stat, Con need not apply unless you intend to defeat your opponents by living a long healthy life far away from them. A Str or Dex combatant very likely has Con as their secondary stat. Dex affects...

D&D 5E (2014) What AC would you give an ogre zombie covered in tower shields?

Keep in mind the Fire Giant Dreadnaught listed above is AC 21. It is holding two shields which are literally thicker than some castle gates. I would probably rule that the tower-shield armor is something akin to splint mail. As I highly doubt the placements were are careful and practiced to...

D&D 5E (2014) Front Line Warlock (Or other caster)

I have a warlock that is Paladin 2/ Warlock X. He is pact of the Tome. Has Shillelagh and Booming Blade. Its not really perfect, I also normally have a phantom steed up (from book of secrets) so I will move from melee to range fairly often if the situation demands it.

    Question about cheating

Yeah, I don't think the officially sanctioned WotC version of DnD is going to say "Oh the books we actually make money on twice a year are illegal for play". End of the day, the reason AL is endorsed by Wizards is to promote dnd and make more money. Also quite frankly, I would rank a well run...

    Question about cheating

Also to the original point, there are provisions in the AL that you are not required to take items or even gold (although your share of gold is still taken from the gold being split). I believe you are not allowed to refuse XP.

    Question about cheating

I think his point is this. And it is a completely valid one. You are 100% allowed to break up hard cover sessions. (you don't have to play Curse of Strahd in one sitting) If you do so you are required to award xp and distribute items at the end of each session (this has been specifically stated...

D&D 5E (2014) The Rule of Cool for my current character...undecided

One note, if you do go pact of the Tome, Guidance is an absurdly powerful spell. If you walk around casting it on yourself every minute you can even use it on initiative. Other than the fact the concentration aspect of it will break your long duration hex at higher levels, adding a d4 on any...

    Question about cheating

Was a facebook post that said the smallest official unit of play was a chapter, its where the FAQ quote about lootz came from. I do agree that things like that should be officially notated in documents, not just passing comments in fleeting message board formats.

D&D 5E (2014) Moving diagonally between enemies on a grid

Hex grids just look so hideous if you are in a square room. all those 1/2 hex just magically unusable.

D&D 5E (2014) Moving diagonally between enemies on a grid

Remember that each space is a 5ft square and the person occupying it is most likely a 3foot wide or less person. (barring fighting gelatinous cubes) Basically, the creatures aren't actually a solid unit, so they aren't blocking movement from diagonal. Hex vs grid, grid gives more area for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Color coding 5e Conditions

Blinded - Black [everything is black] Charmed - Medium purple [kinda close to pink for love] Exhaustion - This needs either 5 shades or a number notation Dark green works as its similar to poison. Frightened - Yellow [lol] Invisible - Light Gray [signify semi transparent] Poisoned - light green...

D&D 5E (2014) What if weapon damage had advantage: Common damage dice

Actually, looking at it again, why would 2d6 not be 8.94. It would be the addition of two 1d6 adv (mean) the rolls wouldn't affect each other. Here is an online tool that lets you share it a little easier. http://anydice.com/program/b9c2

D&D 5E (2014) What if weapon damage had advantage: Common damage dice

I might be tempted to let 2d6 with advantage roll 4d6 and keep best 2, as its whole stick is being ever so slightly better than 1d12 and if you used this system it would not be in those situations.

D&D 5E (2014) The Math of Cantrips with Saves

This is going to vary a bit based on lots of numbers. But assuming you have a +3 ability mod, an attack roll at level 1 would be +5, while your save would be 13. The AC of creatures at CR <3 is going to be around 13 (on average) so that means you have to roll a 8+ (so a 65% chance to hit). Acid...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating a 1-shot item that goes off with damage

BTW. There is a 100% RAW version you can use that is MUCH cheaper than what he mentioned. If you find a ring of spell storing, you can cast shield on it 5 times and let your familiar attune to it. Your familiar can then cast the spell using the ring (assuming a ring remotely makes sense, such as...

    Question about cheating

Specifically, we encountered NPCs that were not in the hardcover, and every encounter beyond the boss was removed or changed to be neutral. (IE a Wizard who is written to attack intruders on sight just talks to the players, without the players even attempting to talk first)

D&D 5E (2014) What should a primordial be capable of? (spoilers for SKT)

First. Iron flask is legendary. That puts it on the same level as staff of the Magi. No one would state the staff of the magi is some standard item. And in terms of power it is only surpassed by artifacts, which usually have entire stories built with them (such as eye of vecna). That said even...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating a 1-shot item that goes off with damage

You are basically wanting a spell scroll that goes off automatically, which is a bit much, but its a level one spell. If I was willing to let you create such a thing it would probably be in the neighborhood of 150~250, and require attunement, and use the reaction of the creature when activated...

D&D 5E (2014) What class fills the tank role best? Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric or Paladin?

Battlemaster fighter gives you lots of control options and enough bonus feats that you can pickup essentials like sentinel without sacrificing str/con.
