D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

I'm not interested in challenging PCs with normal weather in your average campaign town - if weather or environment based challenges are going to increase, it's because the PCs are choosing to go to areas that happen to be more challenging. It's not going to happen automatically just because...

D&D General How much do you care about rule change specifics?

I care. And the extent to which I care depends on how extreme or extensive the changes are. Most of the 2024 rule changes - fairly minor. But I do notice the potion miscibility table is back and I and my players don't like it - so out it goes. But that's just one piece of 2024, so that's fine...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

No, why would they scale with level? That’s just nuts.

    Spoilers The Pitt on Max

Yeah, I think Langdon's joke about being ADHD might be not too far from the mark for the character. I think that could easily look like someone hyped up on some kind of stimulant as he zooms about from one hyper-fixation case to another.

    Spoilers The Pitt on Max

My wife and I started in on the series late so we had all but the very last episode available to us. We binged through it pretty hard the last few evenings because it was absolutely compelling television. A real treat.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Nope, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. Obi-Wan isn't really interesting in any of the prequels. And from my perspective, the follow-up prequels lack even the bright spots of Phantom Menace.

    What Is A Superhero?

Totally have to disagree with you there. A hero puts their abilities to use for good ends - that's a significant part of what makes them tick and why superhero stores are modern mythology. And why stories about people with superhuman abilities but who aren't putting them to use for the common...

    What Is A Superhero?

A superhero is someone with superhuman abilities and/or gear AND who uses them to make the world a generally better place for other people. Lacking that second factor either makes them a supervillain (out for themselves) or just a superhuman (just living life).

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Oh hell, yes. Totally on board. It has the best lightsaber duel and has 2 more interesting characters than any of the other prequels... in that it has 2 interesting characters.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Maybe so that if some former employee recreates it, they still have the original as IP and can use that to claim copyright infringement if it's ever distributed? So, for example, if someone illustrates a Snow White orgy scene but Disney already one in the files, they might be able to stifle...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

My Pendragon core rulebook was printed in Poland.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Well, sure, but I'd lay much of the responsibility for that on major structural changes in media transmission that brought us SO MANY DIFFERENT options. I can assure you, my kids have seen much less Brady Bunch than I did at their ages, because they have so many better options to choose from...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

No, they still print in the USA. The vast majority of my 5e books, including the 2024 ones, are printed in the USA. The only ones I have that weren't are Planescape and Monsters of the Multiverse. Whether that's because the PS ones also came in a box or not, I couldn't tell you. But they still...

D&D 5E (2024) Potion miscibility, permanent effects and using potions in the future.

My recommendation is to stop using the potion miscibility table. It disappeared after the AD&D days and that's where it should have stayed.

How to Delay or Avoid GM Burnout

Yeah, I get it. It's the only face to face game you have. But you keep going down this road with posts here. Time to take a break with this group as it is currently composed and the way it is currently behaving.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

I think it would be more than slightly unfair to The Expanse. While there are relatable conflicts in the Expanse story, the political viewpoints of each group are inherent to their different circumstances in the solar system - Belters with a history of exploitation, deprivation, and bad...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

It didn't matter if it did or didn't. The effect is the same. If a +1 enchantment on chainmail improved the class of the armor from 5 to 4, it was still just subtracting 1 from the numeric value. When it came to practical use of the bonuses, rolls, and THAC0 value, it's a distinction without a...

Binary Success vs Multiple Levels of Success

If anyone had the answer to that question, we'd save so many GMs from burnout or player-caused PTSD.

How to Delay or Avoid GM Burnout

How do you avoid burnout? Take a break. A nice long one. If your players want to keep playing, one of them can bear the burden.
