I think a bigger problem might be trading the white savior trope for a noble savage one.

The 2024 version has, at least, settled that issue by making it a 10 foot emanation rather than a dome.

I can't say it's not fun at all because I've played Masks and that game was OK without GM rolling. That said, GMs like rolling dice as much as other players do. Grabbing up a handful of d6s for damage in Champions or a fireball to see how much damage comes up - FUN whether I'm GMing or playing.

It might still work for energy drain that's just based on a save, like the wight. But, you're right, it would be terrible to be applied by an attack that could possibly double the effect on a critical hit.
