Ohio Gameday - Feb 24, 2007 - Fun was had by one and all!

Hehe. Perhaps a non-winter month for next time?

    BattleStar Galactica:Season 3.5--2/18/07--Arc 14

After having seen the episode, I liked it. It was mid-season filler that will be forgotten in 6 months, but I'm kind of just glad it didn't suck it like in recent episodes that were also mid-season filler. I still think some of the writing staff needs to be paraded out the back and shot for the...

    BattleStar Galactica:Season 3.5--2/18/07--Arc 14

I haven't seen it yet (DVR) but another mid-season filler? My hopes for this show are dropping as fast as my opinion of Lost last year...

    Need a Substitute for Yuan-Ti

I have a distaste for Yuan-ti as well, and can't figure out why. They just seem so eh to me. For a replacement add some sorcerer levels to kobolds, barbarian levels to lizardmen, a human with the half-dragon template, or some wyrmling dragons if possible.

    Concerning Power Attack

If you give them power attack as a special ability, then you should take away a feat. And all that accomplishes is taking at what level the player would usually take it. I have thought about a kind of untrained power attack, but with a very poor exchange rate (half effectiveness or worse).

    Power Attack for Ranged Weapons

If you're the DM Olaf, you can pretty much do whatever you feel is right. If you think it's good as is, go with it. I disagree, but I'm just one voice among many. Put the same question to your players, their opinion is probably worth more than ours.

    Core Three Only?

I've done the core rules only before on several campaigns. I like it, but there are things you miss after a while. Not to mention that sometimes people feel cheated if they can't use their $30 books.

Ohio Gameday - Feb 24, 2007 - Fun was had by one and all!

Well I hate to do this, but the weather this past week has screwed over my work schedule to the point where I might be required to come in on Saturday. So kill my game and remove me from the non-Paranoia orc game. I might still be able to make it, but I can't guarantee it. Damn shame too cuz I...

    Why do you love/hate Drizzt?

I'm sick of the dark elf as well. Years of people wanting to play manipulative evil drow priestesses, or the ever-common "rare good drow" made me sick of drow entirely. They went from a cool race in the original Fiend Folio to a cliche of bad role-playing and powergaming.

    What attracted you to D&D?

I always love the swords and sorcery stuff as a kid. Then when I was 12 a new friend introduced me to the game and it just clicked right in. After a couple of years I could tell you the history of the areas of the "known world" in the expert basic book, but would regularly get C's in History...

    Gestalt Characters

My opinion - "eh". It depends on your style of gaming and DM'ing, but I'd almost rather do non-gestalt than that. The added paperwork wouldn't maked up for the enjoyment. Now I like the idea that everyone has to be a specific class on one side of their gestalts. Everyone being a...

    Drinking and gaming?

I'm a big spoil sport. No drinking at the game.

    Gestalt Characters

I guess it depends on your experiences. From what my group could do, +1 LA per 3 levels is what I estimated. But it also could be because we weren't limited to the PHB. Having access to the complete books and others gave us a bit of power.

    BSG renewed for 4th season

I loved the show until just after they left New Caprica. Since then it has changed into something I wouldn't have watched had the show not had the first 2 years of enjoyable episodes. If they do another season, any writers they hired for this season need to be canned. I know I'm watching a...

    Difficulty Level vs Character Level

As the group gets higher in level their teamwork and tactics develop for their new characters, which makes them more capable of taking on tougher obstacles. I've also been told that in epic levels the CR system can break down a bit, making it harder to gauge the difficulty.

Has 3E become too much like 2E yet?

Given all the options that have have accumulated over the last few years, then yes 3E has gone down a similar path that 2E went down. But that's not a bad thing. I consider something that 2E did that was popular with a lot of people and was then ported over to 3E is a good thing. The only bad...

    Power Attack for Ranged Weapons

Wow. I'm asked for an opinion. I give it. I'm asked to defend my opinion. I do so. Repeatedly. If you don't like my opinions, fine. Do not insult me.

    Power Attack for Ranged Weapons

It's all a matter of balance of melee vs ranged and this feat removes that balance. Tough ranged weapons have versatility and power in numbers, but less damage. Tough melee weapons have less versatility and power in a single swing.

    Power Attack for Ranged Weapons

Because once the guy with the greataxe finishes off his opponent he has to move to a new target, which isn't always conveniently right there. Plus there can be other opponents blocking his path. Someone with a bow just needs to pick a new target and move within 30' of the guy (which usually...

    Power Attack for Ranged Weapons

    It's debatable. Look at the potential damage done on a crit at level 6. Take a composite longbow with a +2 strength bonus & PBS. normal: 1d8 + 2 + 1 = 4 - 11 damage (avg 7.5) crit: 3d8 + 6 + 3 = 12 - 33 damage (avg 20.5) Plenty enough to take out similar level low hit point classes. Add...
