Why Do You Play Evil Characters?

Playing an evil character allows me to approach the game in a different way. Perhaps its the callous way I dimiss the begger in the street or coldly dispatch the enemy on the field who has asked for mercy. I try to have the same goals I would if I was a good character. Its just the entire way I...

    Tavern Fare

The shelf life, is that for opened casks? I was under the impression that beer could last a much longer time than that if it was properly sealed inside a keg or what not. Especially if treated properly like say IPA which due to being over hopped had extended longevity on voyages.

    Guns in a fantasy setting

In terms of cost I created a gun like device for use in a 4e game I ran a few years ago. They were magic guns called war-wands and the rifle like war-staves. The didn't use consumable things like shot and gun powder, or magical equivalents, instead they used engraved metal slugs with a magic...

    Guns in a fantasy setting

This is somewhat outside the area of the OP's question but I think its somewhat relevent so bare with me. One thing that I think gets overlooked all the time when dealing with guns in fantasy is the psychological impact such weapons had. (psychologocical stuff in anyform is usually...

Why do we have bandit scenarios?

No arguing with that. Medieval Europe was rife with such infighting even after they decided to take up arms against "heathens" in the holy lands (which seemed to be a vague facade to go and take the WHOLE loaf from your neighbour in stead of rinds from each other) Though in that light war just...

Why do we have bandit scenarios?

Maybe, but who would the bandits then rob? If its a time of famine chances are the local lords make sure they get food first. So then the peasants have little, and probably aren't worth robbing and if they may want to rethink going after people who do have food because they are probably knights...

Why do we have bandit scenarios?

True, but approval rating seems rather modern, if we are talking about a psuedo feudal society anyway. In feudal societies from what I've gathered the warrior class, knights or samurai take your pick, pretty much get to do whatever the want regardless of approval or disapproval from their...

Help me fill this Iron Tower with Fun!

You say the wizard was a powerful golem crafter? Why not combine golemancy with lichedom and say that instead of dying the wizard "uploaded" himself into a series of mystic crystal relays at the top of the tower which are connected to every golem/device in the tower. In essence the mage is now...

Why do we have bandit scenarios?

If the country as a whole is more "good" aligned this works well. I was looking at it from more of a historical view point but that is probably not as fun. At that point the peasants already give 10% to the church and 90% of the rest to their lord not sure their is much left for bandits or the...

What was your first RPG experience if it WASN'T D&D?

Heroes Quest FTW My first experience with rpgs in general came from Heroes Quest in several incarnations. First was the old Sierra game, which for legal reasons got renamed to Quest for Glory. This was my first experience with any kind of nonlinier, your choice makes an impact game. (opinion...

Why do we have bandit scenarios?

Yeah bandits are a great way to show that you are in a bad place. Historically it seems that bandits are usually ex-soldiers or deserters who capitalize on the fact that during a war most of the leaders/fighting men are off where the war is. Bandits tend to be a symptom of underlying social...

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

For me evil is generally defined in one of two ways either goals, there are goals which are obviously evil, and the lack or ability to "switch off" goodly thoughts or feelings like sympathy, empathy, mercy etc. in order to achieve your own purposes. The first way doesn't lend itself well to...

WAR! huh! what is it good for?

War is a great reason for adventurers to get out of bed in the morning. It provides a way for heavily armed persons to go trapsing through towns with out too many sideways glances. In times of peace the heroes would most likely get harrased by the government for bringing "trouble" but with war...

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

I haven't voted yet, and may not, becuase none of the answers really fit ( may choose other later). For me as a DM I don't wish to run an "evil" campaign, that is a campaign that revolves around, destroying the world, conquering or just general power aquisition etc. This holds true as a...

    Stinky Feats

My favorite fix for toughness is to have it give hp equal to the hd of whatever class you gained a level in when you took the feat. It seems to keep it usefull for melee types out making it too powerful for casters.

    Worse. Character. Name. Ever!!

Wee! I've had players come to the table with more than a few interesting name choices over the years hopefully I can remember them all. Played in a game with Gorgeous George a pugilistic fighter with a flair for purple capes. Don Terase a cg halfling rogue. (don't erase...) From the same...
