    "You can't assume things"

I feel pretty bad for this player of yours SnowleopardVK. I love assuming stuff its what gets me through the day usually. I mean I love to assume when I go to bed that tomorrow I wake up and when I wake up I like assuming that when I open my door I am greeted by the world once again. Or when I...

For those of You who Write/Design your own Games

What and why? For me I design fantasy games for the most part. I've dabbled in some other areas, like steampunk, but those are mostly just fantasy with window dressing. As for why its more like why not? I guess I've just been making games for so long that I just never really stopped...

How often do you include NPCs primarily for roleplaying reasons?

Sammael Aglargond! As for the OP. I tend to agree with the majority on this. I rarely stat npcs up unless I absolutely have to. I'd rather spend my tying thinking up whats going to happen next than number crunch... Though I do my fair share of that too.

Fantasy Technology (Beyond Guns & Golems)

In the last campaign I ran the PCs were placed smack dab in the middle of a civil war on the cusp of the magical revolution. It all begins with some guy having the idea of "hey lets not spend years teaching our sons to swing a blade lets see what we can do when they all learn to wield magic."...

    "Oh god what is that!"

It wasn't nonsense. All of the character's were from other lands, only one was noble born and this particular group of knights was fairly recently made. The whole thing was one of the dukes decided that his army would be more powerful if he spent all his resources training and recruiting wizards...

    "Oh god what is that!"

Once I had the players go to arrest a group of knights whom they knew to be behind the recent attacks of a green dragon and her dragon kin army. Once they reached the chapter house and busted in they found a cable of wizards who summoned a couple of low level demons to tangle with. Eventually...

    League of Legends

Retreating too is a good thing to do. I rarely engage enemies unless I have a clear advantage. I like to think of the game as if its tai chi or judo. There is pushing and pulling between the two teams but the one who over reaches is bound to lose.

    Poll: Favored class & why?

Rogue hands down. I love getting by on my wits and charm in a game. Plus much like vodka they seem to mix well with everything and their is usually a little rogue mixed in with every character I've ever played.

    League of Legends

yeah it can be a frustrating game for sure. It does take time though. I have "won" most of my games but its rarely because I have a high kill count. Also take a look at the difficulty for the champions some have abilities that need to be used in certain orders to be effective. Unfortunately it...

A simple fix to balance fighters vs. casters ?

Here's a quick fix for balancing fighters and caster. Play a low level campaign. DnD is meant to emulate high fantasy which is demons, dragons and magic swords. If you want lord of the rings or some other low or gritty fantasy where magic is small and subtle then play and set all your adventures...

    League of Legends

Well first off play with friends against some beginner level comps first and try to find a type of character whose style fits you. I play melee tank/fighter types well but my friends can't stand them. Once you find some characters that you don't mind. Go to MOBAfire.com and look up some builds...

A simple fix to balance fighters vs. casters ?

Really my personal opinion of this is that dnd is a game about magic. As you level up regardless of class what you are really doing is increasing the overall "magic" of the campaign. The heroes start somewhat grounded in reality going up against mundane threats (orcs, goblins, pit traps etc) as...

True D&D style movies, comics and anime!

Avatar the last Airbender, the show not the terrible movie. It had magic, a mixed party of heroes (despite having one main hero) though mostly the heroes would be wizards or sorcerers of some kind in DnD. The party grows with power over time and are trying to defeat an evil empire. The party...

What is a simple war game to simulate, well, a war in D&D

This is what I use for my games. d20 + bonus for each "unit". Do opposed rolls the unit whose scores higher take the difference and compare it against the units "Heart" (sort of a combo of health, toughness, and bravery) if the remaining number is higher than the units heart that unit is pushed...

    Road adventures -- advice?

-Pilgrims of the same faith as one of the party members or cleric as for safe passage to a nearby abbey or village A. they are legit but being harried by members of another faith. B. they are legit but are heretics and turn on the party if they don't accept their doctrine. C. They are not...

    Sentinent Items

Interesting and it opens up some strange doors for the adventurer. Like if you have a falling out with your sword and they won't work for you anymore. OR if they start being wielded by the parties barbarian behind your back...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

Whizbang Dustyboots I concede your point. Mismatched play styles are definitely something that I have seen tear apart more gaming groups than anything. (except maybe real world commitments... spouses can be so demanding sometimes...) But as you say if you sat down at a table like that you...
