    Does Hide = invisibility?

Hiding does (or should) give you the same benefit as being invisible - +2 to attack and opponent loses Dex bonus to AC. The reason invisible people get the +2 to hit and no opposing Dex is because their opponents can't see them. If a person has Hidden successfully from his opponents...

    Bigger creatures grappling small ones

Actually, the example of the cat isn't relevant, since a cat is only two sizes smaller than a human. A better example would be a human trying to grapple a mouse that didn't want to be held. That's the relative difference between a troll and a cat. That said, if you do successfully grapple a...

    Question about regeneration

My DM was saying that anything with an attack role could be used to coup de grace - I tried my acid splash spell, for example. Even though I did 6 damage with a coup de grace critical, the troll easily made the DC 16 Fortitude save. After rereading the PHB, I don't think you can use a spell...

    Bigger creatures grappling small ones

Last night a troll grabbed my character's cat familiar. According to the rules, it was a grapple, which means you use the grapple rules. However, the grapple rules made no sense. Two problems: 1. When a Large creature grapples a Tiny creature, the Large creature is considered grappled...

    Question about regeneration

Last night our party fought a troll for the first time. There was some confusion about how to finally kill it. The rules on regeneration say that you can kill a troll by delivering a coup de grace. However, unless the damage is fire or acid, it can't kill the troll. You can only deliver a...

Is Chaotic/Lawful Alignment Axis really necessary?

Is it necessary? The Law/Chaos isn't necessary to play the game. However, it might add to the game if it were consistently defined, say as Order vs. Chaos or Law vs. Crime. Right now LG and CG characters and groups can work together in WotC settings. However, LG and LE cannot. Heck, LN...

Spell-like abilities and Item Creation feats

I have thought of this, and I think it is possible. The item creation feats simply require a caster level and the ability to cast the prerequisite spell once per day. Perhaps rules as written a spell-like ability does not count because it is not strictly speaking a spell. However, it's hard...

Variant sorcerer with magic powers, not spells (long)

The sorcerer class doesn't make sense. Sorcerers supposedly possess "raw power that they direct at will," yet they have to abide by the same verbal, somatic, and material components that wizards do. I think it makes more sense for sorcerers to have spell-like abilities. Spell-like abilities...

Is it possible to have a Chaotic society?

Elder Basilisk, I hope that WotC hires you when they start working on 4.0 so that you make one of two following things happpen: 1. Law/Chaos are thrown out of D&D. OR 2. Law/Chaos are given objective and consistent definitions. I couldn't agree more with your analysis. The question in...

Une ville enchaînée : Le Bazar de la vie [Full]

OOC: Après avoir lancé le sort, Altran s'est déplacé en I18, pas J17. (Je voulais qu'il se protège derrière le coin pendant qu'il chargeait son arbalète.)

    good forced to do evil?

Remember that unless the wizard speaks Celestial, he can only indicate enemies for the creature to attack, no torturing.

What's your favorite way of increasing skillpoints?

Good points. You're especially right about the Balance skill. Each time it has been used in a game I'm in, it always ends up in a Reflex save. "You failed your Balance check? Okay, make a Reflex save to see if you fall." ???? Also, there's really no need for the Search skill. Right now...

Can we make the Grim-n-Gritty rules a little less... grim?

Why not just go with the Star Wars VP/WP system? I think that system can handle normal D&D magic without too much tweaking, although you have to figure out which classes get which defensive bonus.

Le bazar de la vie : OOC Thread. [Full]

Je n'étais pas sûr, et je dois savoir pour mes sorts et pour le déplacement. Guillaume, peux-tu confirmer qu'Altran doit être en case I17 dans la carte?

Making 1 skill from 2, good or bad?

Whoa! That's just what I was going to say! Ciaran's right. When you look for things nearby it's Search, while if you look for things far away it's Spot. Just get rid of Search, increase the DCs for secret doors by 5, and give a +5 bonus for active Spotting.

What's your favorite way of increasing skillpoints?

I don't really see anything wrong with giving all the classes +2 skill points to their base. This would give characters more points to play around with cross class skills.

Can a High Skill Check Mimic Effects of Spells?

You might say that the spells duplicate the effects of a successful skill roll.
