    Why are these evil?!?

IIRC Assassins had to be evil in 1E as well. (There were no core 2E Assassin Class). You can be an assassin all you like and be all kinds of different alignments, but if you want to be an Assassin, you have to be Evil. The powers of the Assassin aren't just tools or skills: They are inherently...

    Why are these evil?!?

I agree with Oni. Your Campaign May Vary, but negative energy spells are generally considered Evil in my campaign. But then I've tried to divide personal alignment from cosmological/planar alignment. (Detect Evil, for instance, detects objects and creatures associated with Cosmological Evil...

Writing an Article - Who else uses tarot cards for creating games?

Never done that, but it might be fun creating a completely radom dungeon hack on the fly that way. Do you only use the major arcana? I'm having a hard time remembering the significance of the different minor arcana cards. I remember reading that the suits reflected the different estates of late...

    So where are you from?

In both regards - you are quite correct. :)

Should I nix the PC's Paladin status?

Re: Re: Should I nix the PC's Paladin status? Good advice, Cedric, IMHO. I especially agree with this: Give the players some leeway in how to play their character; don't spoil their fun.

    So where are you from?

Beautiful and partyrific Copenhagen, København to the natives and Hafnia for those who insist on Latin. It is the capitol of the lovely and gentle Kingdom of Denmark, the southern-most country of once warlike but still noble Scandinavia, part of the Nordic Region, home of the fairest maidens and...

Should I nix the PC's Paladin status?

In Denmark they could. I don't remember the actual amount but murder was definitely a crime where you paid a fine to the family and that was that. I mean, it's just murder, no sense in getting all worked up about it. The killed was probably an honorless weakling after all. No big loss. Now if...

    Who's the coolest iconic character?

That female cleric from Basic D&D. She looked like she was going to kick ass! And she was pretty. :)

Why is it evil to kill the prisoners?

Very true. However, let me reitereate my argument: If the players play the part of the heroes - and does so in earnest - their actions should almost always be considered Good. I would find it very annoying if my DM put me in a dilemma where I had to make a tough choice just to tell me...

[OT]Help me, Norway! Jeg har bestemt meg for a laere norsk.(gotta download the types!

Again in Danish - but the basics are the same I want to drink the water Literally: "Jeg ønsker at drikke vandet." You wouldn't phrase it like that though. You would probably say: "Jeg vil drikke vandet. " "I have decided to learn Norwegian" "Jeg har besluttet at lære norsk"

[OT]Help me, Norway! Jeg har bestemt meg for a laere norsk.(gotta download the types!

Caveat: I'm Danish, not Norwegian, but I'll get you started. : ) The two dialects, nynorsk (New Norwegian) and bokmål (Book-language) is very different. Bokmål is very close to Danish - because Norway was heavily influenced by Denmark and Danish for long period of it's history (as Denmark was...

Why is it evil to kill the prisoners?

OMG! Why do people insist on bringing real life situational ethics into a fantasy game?!? D&D alignment system isn't supposed to handle these situations. D&D is about telling stories and these stories follow a narrative. In this narrative there are good guys and bad guys, and the players decide...

Why is it evil to kill the prisoners?

There is nothing terribly complicated about it. Is it what a hero would do? Then it's good. Is it what a villain would do? Then it's evil. Don't look for absolutes where there isn't any.

Does anyone here even play Darksun?

I bought the first edition of the Dark Sun box set and I loved it for the politics and high-level power games. Politics has always seemed to be the core of any Dark Sun campaign to me. Assasinating nobles, rasing armies, working in the underground psionic or arcane movements, driving convoys...

Anyone have effective closet gamer detection methods?

If you are looking for a more subtle approach leave a d20 or other non-d6 dice on your desk.

    Do you recall a nostalgic D&D picture/illustration?

I looove the art of the Basic D&D (red box) PHB. Especially the pencil drawings. Those were amazing to me when I got them (10 years old and could hardly speak or read English). I was hugely disappointed when I got the AD&D PHB and DMG (1st ed.). The illustrations were crude and naïve in comparison.

What crit range do you prefer?

Hmmm... as far as I can see the math doesn't support either side of the argument. Thus the argument boils down to preference and/or the type of opposition: - Hard to hit creatures with heaps of hit points? Use the Scythe! - Easy to hit creatures with few hit points? Use the Falchion!

Lucia and Sweden [or, yes we are odd]

Though marginally less than in Sweden, we also celebrate Santa Lucia in Denmark. For instance, at my college (equivalent to both-sexes fraternity/sorority) it's traditional that on Santa Lucia's day all the men are woken by the singing and candlelight as the women moves in procession (there's a...

    Anyone else miss weapon speed?

Even though it's clear that a Zweihänder (which I suppose you are talking about when referring to the fantasy great sword) is an awesome weapon in capable hands it's still slower to strike with a Zweihänder than with a a rapier because of the Zweihänders much larger mass; it's pure physics - it...

    What's your 3.5e wishlist?

I disagree with most of you in that I don't want all the extra skill ponts. The fighter has no skills but lots of feats - deal with it. I'm strongly opposed to the idea of giving ALL the classes extra skill points. That would just be power inflation. I would however like if the bard was given...
