[Revised] Gnomes, lets hope there gone

No need to exterminate them completetly... ...just make Gnomes Tiny-sized, then they have a niche to fill. That'll rule them out as a standard Player Character race, of course.

Why don't you get the benefit of Immunity to your locations ?

It's legacy from YB1 isn't it? Back then locations didn't grant immunity as the dark side had Dirty and Sneaky Tricks while the Honor side only had style immunities.

    Anyone else miss weapon speed?

It's true that they could be cumbersome, but OTOH they added another quality to the weapons. One sword might be more powerful in damage, but much slower. The Player's Option ehm option went all the way. There initiative only played in if you were using weapons that were in the same speed...

DMs: Do you ask players to contribute money for materials?

I really can't see why it is acceptable to charge for the food you provide as a host to your friends, yet unacceptable to split the other gaming expenses.

    How to roleplay Int 6?

I'm a bit surprised so many have chosen to play him like an oaf. Sure, he isn't "book clever"; he is poor at logical, deductive thinking, and is rotten at puzzles. He would have little education, and not a very good grasp of "fancy words", but it is very wrong IMHO to label him as liability to...

    How to roleplay Int 6?

High Intelligence + Low Wisdom = Eccentricity in my book. Low Intelligence + High Wisdom = The opposite; a very down-to-earth person, who has a hard time learning, but an easy time understanding. A person who has a strong intuition that seldom fails. A high wisdom score indicates to me, that...

Gamma World to Return -- What Else Should Come Back?

Hmprf... ;) Other than a brief period of playing Boot Hill & Warhammer, I never played any other PnP RPG than D&D. A system I found fascinating though was the CRPG Darklands. I spend hours experimenting with the character generation system, and even though the game itself was somewhat...

    Cursed Codpieces . . .

Codpiece of Endless Water? (might prove useful) Codpiece of Powerlessness (one might use a synonyme there) Codpiece of Immovability (very impractical) Some better ones: Codpiece of Fortification (for protection against those extra nasty critical hits) Codpiece of Lordly Might Codpiece of...

What would a Roman Legion standard do in 3E?

I agree that standards warding against enemy spell casters would be most desirable. It is only logical that an army develops countermeasures against the technology (magic or otherwise) they are facing.

    'Origin' of Your User Name

When I ended my days of lurking, and signed up on Eric's messageboards a long time ago, the boards were teeming with animals such as Squirrel Nutkin and others. Thus this name seemed suitable and a name that would stand out. Huitzilopochtli is the Aztec god of the Sun and war. His name -...

    The New Classics

Perhaps the classics of 2nd edition wasn't as much adventure modules as it was campaign settings. I would love a 3E take on Dark Sun for instance, and in 10 years time I would probably consider that world "a classic".

    Underused skills

Appraise shouldn't be used to appraise the price of an object right away (that would be nonsensical since that depends on supply and demand), but it should be used to understand what an item is and the quality of the item. When the PCs go to the market, the PCs could use their appraise skills...

    Coolest weapon from literature?

A couple of swords from Danish history: Skræp - the sword of King Vermund, with which Uffe, his son defeated both the Saxon prince and his giant bodyguard. It "sang" when it was swung and was the only sword that Uffe could use without breaking it. Tyrfing - the sword of the mighty berserker...

    Final Fantasy VIII's Gunblade

Now I realize that this is a weapon from a computer game, but the critical modifier should, IMHO, really be lower when using the blanks to cauterize the wound - not higher.

    NWN Maxim ad

It would be a problem if all female characters were portrayed as thus, but I've heard nothing of such. Hence, I'm all for it. Of course, it would be fair to include some beefcake as well. (There MUST be a Conan-like character, isn't there?)

If you want exotic try Xhosa, "a language that includes pops, clicks, lip smacks and other sounds unique to the indigenous languages of Southern Africa." One might include hand gestures or other body language into the spoken language as well. (A bit like smilies, I suppose). NPC: "Welcome...

[alignment, sort of] Which philosophy are you?

    1. Sartre 2. Mill 3. Kant So what am I? A teleological deontological existentialist? Seems rather eclectic, doesn't it? Truth is I am neither. How can I be - when those philosophies differ so fundamentally on the question of morality. Unless I should be founding my own school of moral...
