How much money do plan on purchasing 3E/OGL products this year?

Zero. I forgot about Star Wars Saga Edition, but even then I'm happy with the core book and the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide for the foreseeable future.

How much money do plan on purchasing 4E/GSL products this year?

No, I haven't planned it out, but I know I'll spend somewhere north of $100 on Fourth Edition books, simply because I already know there will be that much I'll definitely buy.

    Just how desperate are you?

The furthest I have ever driven for any roleplaying game was about 1 hour, but I used to do that all the time when I was at university - and yes, I would go in to uni to play games on days when I had no classes. But, hell, I'd go in on days when I had no games or classes just to hang out with...

    [Forked Thread] What about backgrounds?

I seem to recall that Cyberpunk 2020 had life path character creation. No idea if the first or third versions did or do.

    Is 4E charmless?

I disagree entirely. Fourth Edition excites me more than any previous edition of the game, including the red box Basic Set I started with and the AD&D books which really solidified the hobby's grip on my brain meats. Also the new Mini looks and drives better than the old one, and therefore...

    Preview: The Sorcerer

Wizards of the Coast have commented that the Dungeon Master's Guide 2 will assume that you've learned a bit more than the basics of how to run the game through experience, and will present some more "advanced" techniques. Perhaps the Player's Handbook 2 is assuming something similar - that...

    February Editorial Calender

I'm excited to learn a little more about the shaman and Player's Handbook 2 in general. Necromantic rituals also look very interesting! I'm very much hanging out for the new Penny Arcade/PvP/Wil Wheaton podcasts, too.

Playing characters of the opposite gender

Yeah, I guess so. I care about my characters, but I care about them the same way I care about characters in television - I don't pretend to be them, I'm simply engaged by their story. It's one of the reasons I'm happy to play characters that I would hate to meet and absolutely could never be...

Did You Buy the First Three 4e Core Books?

I wonder how many people who have read the Fourth Edition rules and didn't care for the game have still gone on to try it, as it seems you haven't.

Did You Buy the First Three 4e Core Books?

Yes, I bought them from Amazon and picked them up from my in-laws' house while we were visiting them in California. I've only played a few sessions since then - can't believe it's been six months - in a game which seems to have fizzled, but there you go. Ran a few sessions of my Third Edition...

Playing characters of the opposite gender

The poll doesn't include my position: "I don't care about the gender of your character." That's not strictly true. I know a gamer who always plays ridiculously over-sexualised female characters, seemingly because he gets off on that in some way. Technically, I won't play with him because he...

Do you not play WOW? Forked Thread: Wil Wheaton plays and reviews 4th.

My wife and I both play World of Warcraft, and we both play tabletop games. Nearly all of the people in our small guild, which is entirely composed of people who know each other in real life (though not everyone knows everyone else - you know what I mean!), are tabletop gamers or have been in...

    Dragon 370 - Design & Development: Cosmology

As I said in my earlier post that you're apparently content to ignore, Shemeska, by even giving your PCs compacted ash or cooled magma to walk on you're making the Elemental Plane of Fire "safe for adventure". You still haven't explained how "every crazy and dangerous elemental place you can...

    Dragon 370 - Design & Development: Cosmology

I agree with you. However . . . . . . I say "this region exists in the Elemental Chaos". What have I lost, using the Fourth Edition cosmology? Nothing apart from the meaningless ability to state that X and Y locations technically lie on wholly separate planes. If you're going to allow...

    Gaming and Your Significant Other

Well, those of you who don't game with your partner, anyway. :) Unlike some people I don't think it's necessarily a danger sign if your partner wants you to cut back on your gaming or whatever, because relationships involve compromise. If your partner really hates that you game, though, or...

    Mac or PC?

I like computer games, so I've always used a PC. After something like fifteen years using "IBM-compatible" machines, I find the Mac interface really awkward and annoying when I have to hop on the one we have at work. I don't see myself switching ever.

Spotlight Interview: John Rogers on the Manual of the Planes

It's absolutely lunatic to think that skills honed in one kind of writing don't translate to another.
