    Wanting to provoke an AoO

I'm not sure I'd allow it as a free action, but I've used this tactic in many games to "soak" an AoO before grappling. But I've always just moved past/around the enemy. I imagine it like wrestlers who circle each other on the mat before one finally takes a swipe at the other, and the other...

    AoO when disengaging from grapple

Heh heh, I love the quantum implications of these rules! The velocity of the grappler can be calculated, but the exact location is indeterminate. :) So, if I'm riding on my purple worm (Space of 20'), swingin' my spiked chain...I threaten 44 squares? Or better yet, if I take a -20 on my...

    Does Polymorph restrict size-changes?

I'm not convinced. The Polymorph text referring to "no less than fine" in no way violates the Alter Self clause. All this text does is prevent a fine subject from becoming any smaller than they already are--which is an absurd restriction, as there's no such thing as a "smaller than fine"...

    Does Polymorph restrict size-changes?

By the RAW, it appears that Polymorph only allows the caster to go up or down by 1 size. Am I missing something? Would it be terrible to house-rule this? Doesn't this restriction hurt small spellcasters a lot? Spider

Expanding the list of improved familiars

You must be 7th level to have a dragon as a familiar. Granted, that's a PSEUDOdragon, but it's still a [dragon] type. ;) Spider

    [Prestige Class] Walker in White

Ah, good catch on the BAB. I'm not sure I like the slow BAB progression, since this is supposed to be a fighting class. I might be tempted to reduce the insight bonuses to hit and instead give them as BAB (making the class more powerful). I agree. d6 or d8, depending on how many other things...

Heal skill instead of Cure spells

No problem! This is something I've been thinking on a lot lately, as all the gods get killed at some point in my campaign's history. Spider

Heal skill instead of Cure spells

Here's my thinking: The Heal skill already has rules for treating disease and poison. Indeed, it's pretty easy for a higher-level character with a decent wisdom and heal skill to cure any disease or poison by taking 10 on their check. Unless there's a really good reason, I'd leave them as they...

Heal skill instead of Cure spells

Looks interesting. A couple of points: Are the any divine casters in the game? Are there bards? Without clerics, the "lesser healing" classes become much more significant in the world. By your system, it's easier to heal someone 1d4 hp than it is to stabalize them. Also, it doesn't quite...

    [Prestige Class] Walker in White

What? You actually want the flavor text?! :) OK, here goes: Campaign is a mix of African and Japanese mythology. Only humanoid race on the continent are elves, although hanyou (half-spirits) are fairly common. The character in question is a half-dongo (earth spirit) barbarian whose mother...

    [Prestige Class] Walker in White

A player in my game recently submitted this as a prestige class his barbarian is interested in taking. Any feedback would be greatly welcomed. Requirements Alignment: Any non-evil, non-chaotic Base Attack Bonus: +6 Skills: Knowledge (religion) 2 ranks, Perceive 3 ranks Feats: Blind-Fight...

    ....and the DM just gaped

I've posted this before in similar threads, but here goes: Vampire game, long ago. My character goes to meet the BBEG (Giovanni leader) in his 20th floor office suite. After some failed negotiation, I decide to tackle the BBEG through the plate-glass window. During the fall, I diablarize him...

    ....and the DM just gaped

I've gotten similar reactions from players before. PC is a chaotic neutral sorcerer who takes himself very seriously. He's dark, and mysterious, studying the myriad paths of the arcane. He wears dark robes all the time, reads books on demons, the whole works. Well, after adventuring for a...

    Gaming: 24-style

24 also handles the "escalation factor" of the threats really well. You know: Little Sally has gone missing; go save her! Look, she was kidnapped by goblins Oh, but the goblins are being controlled by weird cultists And the cultists are worshipping a nasty demon And the nasty demon is just the...

    Gaming: 24-style

One of the things that makes the show's stories possible is heavy reliance on technology. Each story is connected throughout by telephones. This reduces the amount of time spent on travel and planning by a huge amount. Also, the relatively small locale of each story (ie, Los Angeles) further...

    Gaming: 24-style

I just watched the first few episodes of 24. It's one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. A single episode is about as exciting as 3 normal, full-length action movies. The premise for the show is that all events happen in real-time. There are 3 or 4 stories happening simultaneously...

Defeated by puzzle - campaign over: Here is the offending puzzle!

Well, as near as I can figure, there are only 50,031,545,098,999,707 (3^35) possible solutions to this puzzle. Assuming it only takes you 30 seconds to try each possible solution, that works out to about 47,594,696,631 years. If I were you, I'd explain to your DM that my character is trying...

Is it fun being an adult?

Yeah, being an adult is pretty great. I had a really hard time from 13-16, and was chronically depressed. I only wish someone had been there to tell me, "yeah, life sucks...but it will get better." For me, being an adult is all about self-determination. It's about realizing that you can do...

    Cover, reach, and AoO?

Yes. So long as the Sorcerer has cover, he Warforged cannot make an attack of opportunity against him. Also, technically, the WF doesn't get a -4 to his attack roll--the Sorcerer gets a +4 on his AC against the WF. Spider

Alternative initiative/action rules (think Metal Gear Acid)

I recently played Metal Gear Acid for the PSP. It's a pretty good game. The gameplay is turn-based. Each turn, you can perform 2-4 actions. Each action has a "cost" assocaited with it. The more cost you accumulate, the longer you have to wait before it's your turn again. I'm thinking about...
