    Rules for Making Hybrid Monsters

I am not sure about "monsters" in the sense that (I think) you mean it, but there are lots of ways to get funky monster abilities in a playable character. Starting with nearly any base race, you could add a "half-etc." template. Then you could use the Graft feats to add arms, tentacles, etc...

riding skill VS Animal defiance feat

Frankly, any Druid who invested the two feats required to get Animal Defiance and Animal Control should get the most beneficial ruling whenever using it IMHO. They are really *very* weak, usable in highly limited circumstances. So, when the Druid wants to use it (and has a reasonable...

Why is E-Tools giving me -2 to Craft & Disable Devices for my Artificer?

Matthew has it right. I had the same problem making a Thief as well. If you already purchased the Tools (the Artisan Tools, not the e-Tools... heh...), make sure that you check the select box indicating that you are carrying them and have them 'enabled', otherwise the -2 penalty will remain.

    Warrior-loremaster viable?

I would also suggest taking a long, hard look at the Able Learner feat from Races of Destiny, that lets human characters buy cross-class skills at 1 point each instead of 2 points (level 1 only to take the feat though, so planning is required). Since both the Fighter and Wizard classes only get...

Wilderness Rogue with pet dogs Question

That is a good arrangement that keeps the concept pretty well. I would hope (and expect) that the player should be happy with that proposal. You are right about the initative for the cohort, but advise the DM to keep track of her *using* the Handle Animal skill (i.e. not a free action) and the...

Wilderness Rogue with pet dogs Question

Don- How about a compromise with the player? (FWIW, I think the idea is cool, too.) Adopt some of your own ideas with Klaus' suggestions, and I think you will have a workable compromise that will keep the player happy. Have her start as a Wilderness Rogue (or even Scout or Ranger, which...

    Help me roleplay Jayne Cobb

I agree with Pielorinho about his low stats being INT and WIS. From my impression of the character, I would put them this way: STR 17, DEX 14, CON 14, INT 6, WIS 8, CHA 12 Note that if I was doing Jayne as point-buy, I would not make either good/bad scores that extreme- he is not quite that...

Is this house rule balanced - Dragoon Jump

I agree with Patryn, I would just call this a Charge on steriods. If you want to add a 'gimmie' game benefit, how about sharing the falling damage with the target, since you are landing on him (avoided with Jump or Tumble check as you describe, which is consistent with the RAW). That way, it...

What's the Most Asinine Character Idea/Concept You've Dealt With?

LOL Funny stuff. Well, if you want to kibitz off-board, send me a note at rowport (at) yahoo (dot) com. I think it is cool to know another ENWorlder in my (admittedly obscure) field.

What's the Most Asinine Character Idea/Concept You've Dealt With?

Ot OT... Mallus- Just curious, are you in the Philly Budget Office? I was in the Chicago OBM for several years before focusing on IT.

What's the Most Asinine Character Idea/Concept You've Dealt With?

Heh! I actually think this is a pretty cool idea, honestly! :D Edit: wasting combat actions straight-up is pretty silly in D&D, but I could see him using Intimidate to demoralize opponents like that... Edit #2: Several of these ideas sound really fun and entertaining to me, and I find it...

Why can't you be prepared for a game session

Ha! That's pretty funny, Joe. And, I agree with the premise behind it, too. Personally, I *love* thinking about future feats, planning out spell strategies, painting minis, etc. For me, the planning in-between game sessions is nearly as entertaining as the sessions themselves. But, there...

    Soloing the World's Largest Dungeon

Although I hate Bards, I think Bard is the best option, since it is the most-generalist class, with casting and some healing. Favored Soul might be another viable option, but entirely missing arcane casting will hurt after the first few sessions. Honestly, doing WLD solo sounds crazy to me...

Any stealthy cleric class for evil race?

Following up on Bastoche's suggestion, of just maxing MS & Hide skills with Cleric levels, you could take your first level as Rogue (or even Scout, Spellthief, or NINJA!) to get Hide & Move Silent with lots of skill points, then do straight Cleric from that point forward. If you take Able...

Frankthedm's miniature thread: 2014/04/17 Formless Spawn of Tsathoggua

That Tacklemaggot is amazingly cool (and disturbing!), Frank! Just FYI, your thread here using unlikely mini materials inspired me to pick up some el-cheapo plastic Jungle Animal figures from the Party Store to re-paint; I think the Gorilla should turn out especially well with some drybrushing...

    Any Sourcebooks On Mythical Weapons?

There was a book out from Sword & Sorcery last year IIRC, called Relics & Rituals: Excaliber that described a 'Round Table' setting, with stats for Excaliber, Holy Grail, etc. It was pretty good I think, but I have not read it in a while nor used it in-game.

Best (and worse) new base classes from WotC

We have a Druid/Scout in our group right now, and he is wonderfully effective as a utility player- decent at scouting (duh), at trapfinding, and at combat. Skirmish can be tricky in enclosed spaces, but *very* effective in the right circumstances, especially when the character gets Spring...

    Tripping and 2-Weapon Fighting

Kel- OK, I will give this a shot, but I am sure that Patryn will correct me where I mess up! :) (1) Can he make a trip attempt as an "unarmed attack" even with both hands full (with weapons)? (I am saying yes, since unarmed attack doesn't necessarily mean with your hands; it can also mean...

Using IH/Grim Tales for medieval fantasy games using the Cthulhu Mythos and styles

If you do decide to use both IH and GT as part of your game, just be careful to keep your sources for classes consistent. While the rules should be reasonably portable one-to-another (e.g. sanity rules, etc.) the classes are *not* balanced to each other- the IH classes are *much* more powerful...
