Divine Power - Finally some nifty new toys for the clerics and paladins out there...

So do I. But since I found out that you can get Chapters/Indigo cards with AirMiles, all of my D&D books became free (our natural "not even trying" rate of AirMile accrual is way more than enough to get the books for free as they come out). I just spend my money at the FLGS on minis instead...

You should have ordered from Chapters/Indigo - mine came on Thursday.

    Easy-Go Classes for Beginners?

Well, for a striker, you do have to worry a bit more about what goes on on other people's turns. You have that Channel Divinity reroll to watch for, you have to follow how your Oath target moves on his own turn, etc. Something like a Rogue is easy-peasy. Try for a flank if you can, fire off...

PHB Book Layout - Good or No so Good

Would this really happen? Which of the following scenarios seems more likely, when designing an encounter: 1) OK, I remember that there was a low-ish level cleric power keyed off of Strength that has a "The enemy cannot attack (save ends)" effect. I don't remember the name or level of the...

    Easy-Go Classes for Beginners?

I'm not sure about the artificer. It's nice and all, but the way it handles healing surges is atypical. Might do better off with a more traditional leader. Avenger is kind of the same - a bit fiddly. That said, as long as you go slow and help out and maybe even allow do-overs now and then...

    Easy-Go Classes for Beginners?

I'm sure that that's how you'll find it. Personally, I know two people who went from "never played an RPG" to "frequent DM" in less than 6 months of playing 4E. And frankly, one of the two is "the girlfriend" (not mine lol) who got dragged into a game partially against her will. :P

PHB Book Layout - Good or No so Good

I suppose the closest thing to a power index I can imagine being even a little bit useful would be a list of what pages the categories of powers are on. ie Cleric class features, page 62 Cleric level 1 At-Will prayers, page 63 Cleric level 1 Encounter prayers, page 63 Cleric level 1 Daily...

PHB Book Layout - Good or No so Good

Everybody says this, but I just don't see it. Look at it this way. I can imagine three main reasons you need to look up a power in the book. 1) You already have the power, and want to see what it does. 2) You are deciding which power to take next. 3) You are making a character and trying to...

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

I can think of a way to deal with it, but it's just complex enough that it defeats the purpose. (The way would be to keep track of the position in which the effect was applied - ie. PC #2 applied the effect, so it ends on the next round on the turn of PC #2, even if it is a different PC who...

    Easy-Go Classes for Beginners?

I'd agree with some that once it's actually built, the wizard is pretty simple to play. At least if you play it as a striker-secondary blaster. It can be a bit more complicated to play an honest-to-God controller wizard. But really, there are any number of classes that are reasonably simple...

    Minions: What Bugs You?

If you follow some of Stalker0's tips in the anti-grind thread, your players will learn to go for the minions first, and then deal with the "real" enemies. If your minions do things like bull rush, grab, and aid another/flank (on behalf of the actual damage dealers) rather than just ping for...

    Divine power info

There isn't (my copy arrived today and the first thing I looked for was something like this). They don't really need one in the style of Arcane Implement Proficiency, because while there are plenty of arcane implements (rod, staff, wand, heavy blade, light blade, orb, tome), there are only...

How we Speed up our Encounters -- what about you?

You could kind of think of it as a surprise round of sorts, for whichever PCs go ahead of all the monsters.

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

Also, nothing drives me quite as bonkers as someone looking up in the PH, at the table, on their turn, the power they are currently using. Exception: I'll let it pass for a level 1 PC, or a PC who has just gained a level and doesn't have the very newest power written out or on a card yet...

    Divine power info

No more than Arcane Implement Proficiency (heavy blades) removes the importance of the Wizard of the Spiral Tower paragon path, or the various pact weapons. Theoretically, you'd be able to retrain a feat back if/when you find the crusader/holy avenger, so there would be a benefit still.

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

I can't see how that is any faster than "OK, I rolled a 9. Let's see... my Strength mod is +9. Wait, does that already include half my level? Oh, yeah, it does. Umm... it's a +2 weapon, and the proficiency is +3. I'm flanking, so that's +2. Do I get another +2 because he's prone? No...

    Divine power info

Related to the original topic, if not the latest posts, I was disappointed to not see a feat in Divine Power (yeah, mine came in the mail today) that would let a Paladin use a weapon as a divine implement. I'm not sure why I was expecting it, but it sure would have been nice.

    Minions: What Bugs You?

Others have said it, but I'll add my voice to the choir. I have no beef with minions other than their XP value. 4:1 isn't right, and 8:1 might be better. Sure, sometimes an encounter with minions gets trivialized by the abilities of one PC or another. Other times, though, and just about as...
