    The Ultimate (A)D&D Kitbash

Mine would basically be 4E, but with the 3.5E skill system and 9 alignments.

D&D 4E WotC takes a playful swipe at 4e haters On The Set of 4E the Red Dragon!

Would that represent Keith Baker then? I know that the setting I entered to the contest was pretty crappy, and he emerged from the pile...

    Tell me about WEG d6

There is one thing to watch out for, depending on the nature of your gaming group. If your group is accustomed to playing level-based games, then the PC advancement will seem geologically sloooooow. If your group is accustomed to playing other sorts of non-level-based games, you'll have a...

Experiences with the updated Skill Challenge?

I always like to come back to comparing the success rate of skill challenges to the success rate of combat encounters. Since generally the penalty for losing a skill challenge is lower than the penalty for losing a combat encounter, it would be cool if you failed at skill challenges a little...

    Going All Evil. Experiences?

This, the groin thing. I *heard* of one that "worked" (in that it ended because some of the people moved to a different city and not because of conflict) for a couple of sessions. The way they did it was to make their PCs collectively rather than separately, and make sure that they shared...

Historical Perspective: 1980s "60 Minutes" segment on D&D

Nerd stigma I cna deal with. It's all the other nonsense that bothers me. Haven't had to face much of it myself, other than one conversation with my mother in the early 90s. She now thinks my hobby is "stupid", which is a huuuuge step up from "immoral".

Worst/Most Ridiculous Gaming Experience Within a Homebrew Campaign

Dude, Fart Dragon? lol My first game ever we rolled 1d20 for our starting level... My first PC, a level 6 Duelist, died quickly. My second, a level 18 Death Knight (!) lasted much longer. :P Later, we were using the 1st edition rules where a Thief would get xp for gaining treasure. We...

Our First Game -- What some non-RPG fans Learned that they want to share!

This. Seen it sooo many times. I only play at clubs and conventions, so I see a great many gamers, and it is almost universally true. Folks who could handle doing the arithmetic from scratch every time are the ones who have it pre-calculated, and folks who can't don't.

D&D Online to gradually transfer from 3.5 to 4e

I may have mis-spoke. I didn't mean reduce the number of powers just to have fewer; I meant that many of the powers would have to be removed or simplified in order to make the game work. Types of things that wouldn't work in real time (wihout major revision beyond recognition): 1) Opportunity...

D&D Online to gradually transfer from 3.5 to 4e

I agree here - true D&D rules can't work unless it is turn-based (can you imagine trying to choose from among the options of any 4E character in real-time? So many hot keys!). Anything done in real time will require a vast reduction of abilities and simplification of play beyond recognition. I...

D&D Online to gradually transfer from 3.5 to 4e

If you had autoattack on, you weren't getting the optimal experiance anyway. The whole point of DDO combat is that every second requires some sort of action - clicking to attack, moving out of reach or into flanks, key-mashing or clicking to cast spells, etc. They deliberately went as far as...

    Alchemy > Ritual Caster

Sure, refute me with your precious "rules" and "math". Your brain might say it's easy to hit, but my gut says it's hard. I don't know about you, but my gut is a LOT bigger than my brain...

    Alchemy > Ritual Caster

Well, it's for *trying* to kill minions, anyway. Minions have level-standard defenses, and alchemist's fire has a pretty low to-hit roll, so it's not likely to get very many... I'm more of the "fighter gets to mark many foes at once" school myself. My fighter is the one who is most likely...

D&D Online to gradually transfer from 3.5 to 4e

I would think that people hating DDO who love WOW would be a *good* sign... I also hate WOW (any game where you can get up and make a sandwich while your character still fights is too stupid for words, or where you can train your 3yo daughter to farm pelts), and love DDO.

Heroic Feats: where are the "gimmes"?

Thanks for the ideas all. For the record, the two "forgettable choices" were: wizard (armor proficiency leather and jack of all trades) and warlock (improved dark one's blessing and jack of all trades). I might swap out some of the feats for some suggested here.

Heroic Feats: where are the "gimmes"?

OK, here's my situation. I'm building four warforged characters. A fighter (sword/board), a cleric (battle), a wizard, and a warlock (infernal). I'm planning out the whole heroic tier for all four. I can fill out all the feats and wish for more with the fighter. For all three of the others...

D&D Online to gradually transfer from 3.5 to 4e

There's no way DDO can gradually transition to 4E. You either go, or you don't. And there's no way they can go. It's all PR fluff.
