I made an NPC with a bag of devouring on his person...

Hm. I didn't know there was a previous creature statted-out before... Do you remember where? Anyhow, I still think it's clever. I don't mind that the writer deviated from the DMG, or that a PC might somehow survive being devoured. :) Tony M

I made an NPC with a bag of devouring on his person...

Yeh, that was a great article. It described a big, floating jellyfish-like monster that lived on another plane, and it fed via extra-dimensional mouths--i.e., bags of devouring. The article went on to say that if a PC could capture such a beast and transport it back to his home plane, he...

Take the GM out of the Equation- A 3e design philosophy

I think the designers were trying to prevent the 'old' kind of arguments--the ones where the DM invents a rule on-the-spot and then one or more players complain that the rule is not realistic or fair or consistent with the 3 rules he invented last session, or whatever. My 2 cp. Tony M

How much do names in D&D matter to you?

Me, I like the sound of a cool name because of it evokes something otherworldy and awesome. Give me cool names for everything! Races, classes, feats, spells, EVERYTHING! I even want the roads and forests to have cool names. I love the word UNDERDARK, for example...

"Mount Zogon" comic in Dungeon Magazine

Thanks Anabstercorian, Graywolf-ELM, Voadam, RFisher, Arnwyn, Laslo Tremaine, Raloc, JazzDaze, RazzOputin! :) Ooo, that would be fun. Galeena and Domato's Delvers will meet, Alzrius. Rest assured. But I don't know when they'll meet. When it happens, it'll likely happen in the pages of...

"Mount Zogon" comic in Dungeon Magazine

A book? No, afraid not. If I sell a bunch of drawings and other stuff from my site, I'll take some of the profits and self-publish one, however. The book would likely collect all the Dragon and Dungeon comics, and include plenty of new ones... ...including that over-the-top edgy/hilarious...

"Mount Zogon" comic in Dungeon Magazine

I don't know. December. Probably sooner. I'll probably be spontaneous when I do it. Just one day, bam, I'll feel like it's the perfect time to start building the Zogonia archive. :) Tony M

    House Plans [UPDATE: Construction!]

The office is by the front door? No way! For a D&D house, I'd move the office upstairs. The evil villain is probably in the office when the PCs attack and it shouldn't be too easy to get to him. I'd also fill one of the upstairs bedrooms with giant spiders. And I'd change it so that the...

    Player vs. Character Dilemma.

Well, you said it was a fun session, so that's good. Yeh, it seems pretty clear the DM had decided you were going to lose that gem, no matter what. His motive for that bit of heavy-handedness, however, seems to have been friendly enough; he wanted his guest-Player to have extra-good fun...

    Do we coddle new Players?

Are we coddling new Players? "Coddle" is such a biased word... Back in the the Old Days, the biggest difference between Fighters was the percentage-roll on his 18 Strength. If your Fighter died, simply re-roll the percentage, change the name from Zunk to Klunk, and you're ready to continue...

The DM did IMPURE things to my PC!

I could tolerate such a Charm for maybe half-a-session. After that, forget it. I'd assume the DM and other Players hated how I play my PC and wanted to shut me up. Call your DM right away and say something like, "I'm not having any fun. I'm tired of waiting for the Charm to expire. End...

Player so afraid PC will die that she's not having fun

Well, it seems like you inadvertently taught them to be afraid of you. (Some DMs actually TRY to impart this mindset...) There's a few things you might do to try and change your players' attitudes: Make all encounters much easier from now on, so that it's unusual for a PC to go below 10 HPs...
