    D&D 5E (2014) Killed Me a Lawful Stupid Paladin

I agree with this. From a pure game perspective, there is definitely an angle where the PCs actions make sense. Bold? Yes. A gamble? Yes. Perhaps slightly foolhardy? Yes. But frankly, I'd love to have a PC played as a bold but slightly foolhardy warrior, willing to take a gamble. But...

    DM PCs

A lot of the discussion on DMPCs is about combat/noncombat, XP, stats, etc. I don't think any of those things are really the dividing line between NPC/DMPC. To me it comes down to three things: 1. Decision making 2. Agency 3. Spotlight PCs always have a voice in decision making. NPCs...

Handling Politics Talk at the Table?

For many, many years my gaming table has had a “no politics and no religion” rule. People are welcome to chat about all sorts of things during the previous snd post game socializing, but not those two topics.

Campaign Concepts You've Got On Deck

A grimdark, sword-and-planet style game, heavily influenced by the "Taarna" story from "Heavy Metal", plus a little bit of Athas. Basically I want an exotic planet, strange races (or existing races turned on their head), exotic mounts, lots of flying mounts, swords and axes alongside ray...

    DM PCs

My experience is spot on with their opinion, to the extent I will not play in a campaign if the GM is going to have a "GMPC".

D&D General "Hot" take: Aesthetically-pleasing rules are highly overvalued

I like using “keywords” (some might say “jargon”) to clearly delineate game effects. it’s a good filter. If Lear ing a new vocabulary of 25 to 50 words is too high a barrier fir a potential player, then that player isn’t a good fit for my table.

D&D General Nature Clerics vs. Druids?

In my games, generally it's broken out as Nature Clerics are more concerned with harvests, agriculture, animal husbandry, etc. and Druids are all about the wild places. This is mostly just to provide some clear delineation, and is simply one take. I suppose from an outlook and responsibilities...

Dragonlance Dragonlance's Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman Are Suing WotC for Breach of Contract

Thanks for posting this. I let it run in the background during lunch. Unlike most of the commentary in this thread, it was pertinent and educational.

Dragonlance Dragonlance's Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman Are Suing WotC for Breach of Contract

How do you arrive at that? Beyond their legal team filing a suit, I see absolutely nothing else done by W&H. Unless I'm missing something, you're angry they filed a lawsuit?

    HISTORICAL CAMPAIGNS

I've read through Mythic Britain, and it looks to be a great foundation for a campaign. I think Mythras makes a great system to run these sorts of games.

    HISTORICAL CAMPAIGNS

I've played in a couple of games that were essentially TTRPG analogs of "historical fiction" novels, i.e. adventure took place in a historical time period, around historical events but PCs were fictional (but historically accurate) characters. Generally, these sorts of games require either a...

    D&D 3.x I've been running a Ptolus campaign since 2006. Here's what I've done with the setting.

Having played a fair amount of Ptolus and a lot of Arcana Unearthed, I was a regular reader on Monte's forum and an occasional poster. It's really sad that forum is gone.

Exactly. Invoke the termination clause, pay what you owe and move on.

D&D 5E (2014) How Wotc can improve the adventure books.

Zingggg! This comment nails it. For how many decades there has been for TTRPGs to develop, we should be in a Golden Age of supplements. Instead, in some ways, publishers have regressed. Particularly the bloat of text in adventures. The old school TSR modules were far from perfect, but they...

    AD&D 1E What makes a D&D game have a 1E feel?

A simpler focus on just adventuring over save-the-world heroics.

D&D 5E (2014) A brief rant about Rime of the Frost Maiden, farming, logistics, and ecology

Your analogy was good. But ultimately it will be futile. The detractors of RofFM are basing their negative reaction on objective points. There is certainly a subjective component to how much something concerns anybobevperdonnover another, but I have snd gave seen many objective shortcomings...

D&D 5E (2014) Running Rime of the Frost Maiden

This is set in the Forgotten Realms. I've read many, many FR supplements over the years and I honestly can't remember ever seeing a Necromancer in FR who wasn't Evil.

D&D 5E (2014) Another “Running for one player” thread...

Fair enough. I get what you're doing now. More about roleplaying and less about overcoming difficult conflicts. Here's my suggestion: Set up a reason for a quest. Have the PC and companions told the end result of the quest can only be found in a remote mountain valley that's incredibly...

D&D 5E (2014) Another “Running for one player” thread...

How do you plan to handle the elephant in the room, which is the fact this character can't die? If it's a prequel to an established character, it's already a given this character will survive her adventures so she can go on to become the character of now times.
