    Disappointed by movement

Well, and the Warlock, but that's only after he's killed someone he's cursed.

    Paladin. Disappointing

Just one thing: the Paladin won't be able to use Shielding Smite from a distance. He can use a throwing hammer for it, but only in melee (it states melee clear as day, plus the power doesn't have an entry for +X if thrown).

    Party Ambush!

You forgot to factor in the Ranger's Hunter's Quarry (+1d8 with Lethal Hunter feat) and the Warlock's Curse (+1d6). And unlike Defender marks, there was nothing mentioned about Ranger and Warlock not stacking.

    Paladin. Disappointing

Plus it appears to be a Charisma-based attack.

    Paladin. Disappointing

First, keep in mind that you're comparing a Halfling Paladin with a shortsword to a Dwarven Fighter with a warhammer, for one. The warhammer does more damage on its own. I'm not even sure Halflings CAN use warhammers. Second, the Paladin CAN target himself with Lay on Hands, as has already been...

    Action Points

Thus why it's a good thing they're usable only once per encounter and gained only every two encounters.

    Action Points

Or pressing onward, using action points instead of our Daily powers in most of our mundane encounters, and saving our Daily powers for when we're REALLY in deep?

D&D 4E SRM Marking Marked and Other 4Eisms

I do kind of wonder if, say, a Paladin took Thicket of Blades through Fighter Training feats and then marked an enemy one way or the other (Thicket OR Divine Challenge) if the two abilities would stack for a nice double whammy if the Paladin's close enough. Just speculating. Truthfully, I don't...

If you could buy advance copies of the core books now, how much would you pay?

I'll say Amazon price. I'm definitely looking forward to 4e, but I have my non-RPing-related priorities, too.

D&D 4E SRM Marking Marked and Other 4Eisms

Paladin/swordmage would be similar to paladin/fighter: the swordmage's arcane mark violated the sanctity of the paladin's divine mark. Swordmage overwriting fighter could be that the swordmage's mark is an enchantment-type spell. Fighter overwriting swordmage would be a bit trickier (maybe...

D&D 4E SRM Marking Marked and Other 4Eisms

If Thicket of Blades is anything at all like it is in Tome of Battle, the ongoing effect of the Fighter's marking strike is that if the target attacks anyone else while the Fighter's in range they're going to eat an Attack of Opportunity. Then there's more advanced powers such as where the...

D&D 4E SRM Marking Marked and Other 4Eisms

Thanks a bunch for this. It seemed to me like the display of fighter and paladin overriding each other was there just to drive the fact home that, yes, defenders can override each other's marks. But it doesn't mean they should.

Things the rogue class said..and didn't say

Classes are getting attack powers at odd levels and utility powers at even levels, apparently. Whenever feats are gained (odd or even), it's silly to conclude that it's tied to power gains in any way, shape or form.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Hmm, well I thought of it as the Rogue making the "false stumble" to mislead his target. If he really sells it (hits the target's Will), then the target is mislead in the direction the Rogue intends and stumbles in that direction, and then all of a sudden the Rogue sneaks the other way...

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

So I take it it's not exactly the equivalent of a Persisted Wraithstrike or Find the Gap? Because those spells got quite nasty. What about Positioning Strike with Artful Dodger? That's the main one that gave me pause. (It's a per-encounter strike, I know, but I've thought up a few situations...

    Ampersand Sneak Attack: Alignments

Alignments as we know them are still around. They just no longer have any effect on game mechanics. Basically, just window dressing. Such a demotion making alignment closer to what it should've been all along: a loose set of guidelines.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Three things that are giving me pause: - I hope they're clarifying the description of Positioning Strike because I can think of quite a few situations where this could be really broken the way it's currently written (especially with Artful Dodger). - Weapon Proficiency list looks thin. I liked...

D&D 4E So, which class will end up being the -Zilla of 4e?

I've heard some mention that certain party synergies might be the new "zilla," but I'd probably be able to live with that a lot easier than I can live with 3.5's CoDzillas and their Wizard lieutenants running the show themselves. At least in the case of party synergies, it takes more than one...

Paladins; Will they finally get to shine in this edition?

I'd be okay with paladins having access to rituals.

Paladins; Will they finally get to shine in this edition?

Uh, Paladins in 1e and 2e were HARDLY subpar Fighters. All they were missing was Weapon Specialization, which wasn't that big a deal. Especially if you played the Cavalier sub-class variant from 1e Unearthed Arcana (now THERE was a Paladin!). 1e/2e Paladins were more like 99% Fighter with a lot...
