    Evil PC's

I've played in an evil party. It's a difficult role-playing challange. Also, the DM needs to be more firm in establishing a reason for the party members to be working together. However, a lot of the quests still work. Just because an adventure was originally designed around a group of good guys...

How would a PC type go about acquiring an undead army, by RAW?

I wonder... how much would it cost to creat an item (say, a ring) that completely removed the limit for number of undead controlled.... Perhaps this is artifact-level magic. But it sounds like a great campaign item. One simple power... causing so much trouble... :D

How would a PC type go about acquiring an undead army, by RAW?

If you have intelligent undead, like ghouls, they might follow you just because you're a charasmatic leader. As far as hordes of skeletons go.... I don't think there's a way, by the RAW, for one person to command limitless hordes, like they do in the books.

    Poison Use? crafting?

The BoVD has rules for this, too. I think any poison crafting assumes that the cost of crafting the posion accounts for acquiring all the requisite ingredients, including black-market items. For crafting valuable items, I rule the PCs must be in a population center where the GP limit for...

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

He seems to be suggesting that keeping magic out of the hands of the PCs is the only real way of keeping it 100% mysterious. It's a rational argument, and I agree.

    All About Mounts 5-Ride-by Attack?!

"so long as it is a square that allows you to attack and then continue on in the straight line of the charge" You'll notice that, strictly speaking, it just needs to be in a square that would allow you to continue moving in a straight line. It doesn't actually say you have to do so.

    A bow and wands

You could make the wand about the size and width of a regular arrow, and just keep it in your quiver. After all, if you can draw your next arrow as a free action, why not the other thing in your quiver that's shaped exactly like an arrow?

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

The thing is, people say they want magic items to be rare and special. They say they want their players to be impressed and to treasure their rare, valuable +1 Longsword. But the problem is, no matter how rare you make them, it's still just a +1 Longsword. +1 just isn't that much. A fighter who...

What was the first monster you killed in D&D?

My dad ran my first D&D game for myself and my brother, using the old red basic set. I played a cleric and rolled 1 hp, but since it was just a game it didn't even occur to me to whine about it. My brother was a fighter. We encountered an Ogre and managed to kill it, but then we ran into a...

    She's A Keeper!

...So I take it you use the death from massive damage optional rule? "Crap, I just took 64 points of damage? That's one jello shot for each point?"

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

I dislike the favored class concept entirely. It seems to impose campaign-specific guidelines on a campaign-generic rulebook. Same with the gods presented in the PHB. Why not just list "God of Thieves" "God of War" or "God of Honor" and let the DM fill in the names and backgrounds if he feels...

    She's A Keeper!

Well, I guess you never know. My wife has said she's not really interested in that kind of thing. Oh, you mean to play D&D!

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

I've always assumed that the flame from a fireball spell doesn't fill the entire space equally. There are hot spots and cool spots, things like that. Making your saving throw just means you contort yourself to be mostly out of the hot spots and mostly into the cool ones. Or something.

Core concept or rule that just bugs you beyond your ability to put up with it?

This came to bug me only after I tried proofing/editing a module for somebody. He had put in the "gray text" boxes where the DM reads the room's description phrases like "The ceiling vanishes into darkness..." But that requires the DM to change the description based on whether members of the...

Deck of Many Things, changing alignments and a negative level

My interpretation of the card would bestow one negative level for each act that did not correspond with the character's new alignment.

Piratecat's Updated Story Hour! (update 4/03 and 4/06)

I think he depends on their role-playing professionalism to keep player knowledge and character knowledge separate.

What the heck is "First Edition Feel"?

When people look back to when they first played D&D, there is a certain magic or nostalgia in the memory. When they cannot capture that feeling again, they blame the new edition.

    Spectral Hand and Wands

I'm imagining a rogue with UMD delivering touch sneak attacks with a wand of spectral hand and a wand of shocking grasp.
