I would agree with this. I see no reason to believe that the "bead" is a solid object. Though not entirely flavor text, I don't think the "bead" is meant to follow any of the rules for missiles.

Croutons might be a bit munchkin, but it depends on your group. Do you think they can handle the additional power? I've heard of campaigns collapsing because too many croutons were given to the players too quickly.

I think the new saving throw system really impacted the spell system.
