INT boosting Items and spell levels

And nothing stopping him from metamagicing his 1st level spells into 2nd or 3rd level spell slots... of course, then he would have had to have taken metamagic feats back when there he had no higher level spell slots within which to use them...

Sneak attacks within an Obscuring Mist

I disagree. I see no reason to presume this.

    Should bows be Exotic Weapons?

Exactly. Get yourself some springy wood and a length of twisted sinew and pretty much anybody can make a crude bow capable of killing a deer - or even a human. When I was a kid I made a bow and arrow out of 2 bamboo sticks, some kite string, and enough tape to put a ball on the end of the...

    Spell Mastery?

I've been known to have NPCs steal PC spellbooks, but only when it was appropriate to what was going on (the party teleported out without their wizard because they were in a bad spot, and she got captured and stripped). She didn't have Spell Mastery, though, and managed to escape using only the...

    Summon Monster alignments

Nice flavor text. Too bad it isn't included anywhere in, say, the rulebooks. Every other spell is just as effective regardless of the alignment of the caster. I see no reason this one should be any different.

    Summon Monster alignments

Your argument doesn't hold much water because, even if an enemy would require a Smite Good or a Smite Evil, I'm not suggesting that any given caster be able to summon a critter of either Celestial or Fiendish nature - they're still limited to their normal templates. As it is, the spell gives...

    Summon Monster alignments

I just don't see why it was apparently unbalanced to simply have a list of animals, with the stipulation that they gain either the Celestial or Fiendish template, based on the alignment of the caster. Honestly, why is Celestial Badger on the list, but not Fiendish Badger? They're exactly equally...

    Cleave and Charge Question

You know, Hyp, I've always wondered... Are you a lawyer?

    Research Skill?

You could reduce the DCs for Knowledge checks by 10 when in a library, if the character posesses ranks in the Knowledge skill required. In addition, you could allow Knowledge checks in knowledge skills in which the character has NO ranks, in which case the DC is NOT reduced.

    Summon Monster alignments

I agree that the Summon Monster lists need to be much more extensive, with the option to summon anything on the list as Celestial or Fiendish, according to the caster's alignment.

Piratecat's Updated Story Hour! (update 4/03 and 4/06)

So, if we don't want the Ghoul King to be the next God of Death, and we don't want Elder, who DO we want to be the next God of Death?

    Bring back that lovin' feeling...

There's a plethora of ideas out there for unusual campaigns, but in this case I think you'd be better off ditching High Fantasy entirely. See if you can find an RPG that NONE of the people in the group, including yourself, have ever played. Give it a whirl.

    Greater Restoration and Clerics

I personally think a cleric restoring his own lost levels using Greater Restoration should regain the levels, but have a 500xp "debt" that must be paid before he begins to accumulate more XP.

    Bring back that lovin' feeling...

There's nothing wrong with playing other games. Take a break from D&D. I'd recommend hosting a LAN party, but that's just me.

    Greater Restoration and Clerics

I'm sorry Ranes, but you're incorrect.

    Reduce Person

I'd interpret it as saying "Equipment worn or carried at the time the spell is cast is reduced. Any reduced item that leaves the reduced creature’s possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size. Items picked up after the initial casting of the spell do...

    Can poison kill?

It kind of depends on how your calculating it in your head. Say you have a CON bonus of +2, and you're a 5th level paladin. (I'm ignoring the complication of getting full hp at 1st level for the moment). Do you have 5d10+10 hp? Or do you have (1d10+2)+(1d10+2)+(1d10+2)+(1d10+2)+(1d10+2) hp...

    Multiple Potion Drinking

Right. There's a reason the rules say it takes as long as it does to drink a potion, and that reason isn't realism. If your PCs want to find a way to drink 3 potions in a round, there needs to be a mitigating factor to balance it. Not becuase it's realistic to do so, but because it's broken...

To Face or not to Face, that is the question

I'm glad facing is gone. I am a little annoyed by square monsters, but I really see no other way to do it fairly, if we want to keep facing out of the picture. There's nothing you can't explain, really, if you try. The question above, for example, where a player is asking what way the guard is...

    Can poison kill?

Well folks, that is indeed the way I've been playing it for years. But let me argue anyway, as the Devil's Advocate I often am. Hit points are abstract, right? So we can assume that a commoner who has 6 hp, and then loses 3 hp, is as injured (in terms of the physical wounds visible on his...
