    Prestige Class Questions

By the book, you can take a level of any class for which you qualify when you level up. This can make some pretty wacky combos, mixing different PrCs. Realistically, many DMs limit PCs to a single PrC, or require the character to join some sort of obscure in-game organization in order to take...

What is the reasoning for this? I've always pronounced it TARE-uh-skew myself.

I never pronouced Gez either of those ways, though he should change his username to the later on Nothingland.

Confusion with Commoners. Damn Peasants! :P

If your campaign doesn't allow role-playing XP, there is the justification that the D&D teeming is teeming with nasty monsters of all description. Any commoner over 10 years of age has probably seen and survived seeing numerous monsters of all CRs. If such a monster sees a commoner and attacks...

    So why monks?

It isn't based in European historical figures, as far as I can tell, though Europe had some fine styles of unarmed combat. But D&D is already a weird mish-mash. The original Cleric concept was loosely Christian, while the Druid is Celtic. Historically there is little justification for having...

    D&D terminology pet peeves

Apparently some people pronounce "Gygax" like "Jyjax." Both the Gs are supposed have the same sound as the one in Gary.

Question - how to cure effects of Wounding spell?

IIRC, any amount of magical healing, even Cure Minor, will end the bleeding, OR you can make the aforementioned Heal skill check.

Ah, it actually has both the correct and the bastardized pronunciations.

    D&D terminology pet peeves

NYJM is pronouncing it in the original French. Americans have twisted foriegn words around becuase you have to make sounds that don't exist in english. Every time I hear somebody talking about the football team "Notre Dame" I wince. I wonder how Webster pronounces "foyer." I'll go check.

    FAQ - Frequently asked questions.

Hey, and for kicks, we could post all the contradictory answers to the questions. The RAW say this, the official FAQ says this, the Sage says this, Hypersmurf says this, and the general concensus for "reasonable DMs" is this.

    Cold Iron Brilliant Energy Longsword?

True 'nuff. I'll just stand by my previous opinion, and we'll leave it at that.

    Cold Iron Brilliant Energy Longsword?

Not bad, except when figuring that this ability will cost 12,000gp, minimum. Since the weapon in question is already a +5 weapon, costing 50k, and a +6 weapon costs 72k... And BE is weak enough without having to pay an extra 12k just so that the weapon re-gains the functionality it had before it...

    Forbiddance does what exactly?

There's also Hallow, with the myriad of spells that can be tied to it. Very useful.

    Forbiddance does what exactly?

Yes. The primary function is to prevent magical/planar travel. It does this without fail. The secondary function is to damage creatures of incorrect alignment who enter the area. Sometimes they shake off some of the damage, sometimes they don't. Either way, damaged or not, they can enter the...

    Population growth

It is if Cure Disease can cure genetic disorders, too!

    Population growth

I'm not thinking they'll raise the dead, but all those diseases that you can die from in early childhood that we currently vaccinate against, or genetic diseases, could all be fixed instantly by a Cure Disease. That right there will increase population growth dramatically. Citing page 6 of this...

    Population growth

You also have to take into account infant mortality. How many of the 7 children survived past their first year? In a D&D world, assuming you have some benevolent clerics who are willing to cure disease and whatnot for free on babies, the population growth could be staggeringly huge.
